"I swear, Y/N is one of the best con artists I've seen." Sean waved his arms around as you made your way towards the horses with him and Lenny. "You've said that about a million times now." Lenny chuckled as he hopped onto his horse.
"But it's true, ain't it?" Sean gave you a wink and helped you onto Arlo. "Remind me again what we're doing." You said as you held onto the reins, slowly moving away from the hitching post.
"There's a stagecoach that's supposed to be passing through the Heartlands soon. Supposedly, there's a wealthy man aboard." Sean rubbed his hands together as you trotted out of the camp.
"You better be right about this." Lenny scoffed as he rode alongside Sean. "Of course I am!" Sean looked at Lenny in disbelief. You laughed at the two as you left camp and headed towards the plains.
It felt good to be out of the camp for something other than silly chores. You held yourself straight as you began to pick up the speed. You kept your eyes open, surveying the fields as you passed through. The last thing you needed was lawmen or O'Driscoll's chasing your tail as well.
"Ok, I say we stop here. We have a good advantage point." Sean stopped on top of a small cliff that looked over the Heartlands. You had a good view of the road, as well as the surrounding area.
"Just keep yer eyes out for a fancy stage coach." Sean cupped his hands over his eyes to block the sun out of his face. You looked down the road for any sign of the stagecoach. "You sure you got the time right?" You asked as you looked around some more.
"Course I did." Sean sighed as his hands dropped to his side. "I'm afraid to say Sean's right this time." Lenny pointed down the road as a stage coach began to appear out of the horizon. "See!" Sean playfully nudged you as you jumped off your horse.
"Let's just get this over with." Lenny hopped off his horse, grabbing his shotgun. "Y/N, what way should we do this?" Sean got lower to the ground as the stagecoach made its way down the road. "We're far enough from camp to shoot the drivers, and just steal the stuff off the man." You held your rifle firmly as you crouched down to the ground, getting a good view of the stagecoach.
"I like that." Sean got giddy as the target got closer. "On my count." You let out a deep breath as you aimed your gun at the drivers. "1...2...3!" You shouted and took a shot at the driver. The gunshot echoed through the land and the bullet went straight for the man.
The man doubled over, falling off the stage coach as the horses began to panic. "Quick!" Lenny shouted as you all began running down the side of the cliff. You slid on the rocks, nearly tumbling down the rest of the way. You kept your gun raised as you made your way towards the stagecoach.
"Come on boys!" Sean grabbed the handle of the door, pulling it open to reveal the older man cowering in his seat. "I'll check the back." You said as you walked around the stagecoach towards the back. There was a padlock on the back compartment.
You held your gun up, quickly taking the shot and popping the compartment open. "Holy shit." You muttered as you stared at the stacks of cash. "I'm surprised they ain't have more people guarding this." You looked around to make sure there wasn't anyone else in the area.
"Let's just hurry up and get out of here." Lenny headed to the back, helping you grab all the cash. Sean was busy taking every valuable item off the man as he stayed frozen in fear. "Alright, looks like we were successful with this one." Sean smiled as he stuffed a pocket watch into his pants.
You placed your fingers in between your lips, whistling for your horse and watching as he came running down from the cliff towards you. "I'm sure Dutch will be pleased." You grabbed onto Arlo's reins and swung your legs over him.
"Mhm." Sean hummed as he got on his horse and looked around for the last time. "Have fun finding a ride back old man." Sean saluted him as you three rode off back towards camp. "I didn't know you were a sharpshooter, Y/N!" Lenny yelled back at you as you raced through the Heartlands. "I guess I have some experience." You shrugged your shoulders, knowing very well where your experience came from.
Thankfully, there really was no one else guarding the stagecoach. It caused an uneasy feeling, since it all seemed too easy. You kept your mouth shut as you made your way through the trees, almost back to the camp.
"Look who's back." You heard a voice through the trees and looked to see Sadie standing guard. "And not empty handed." You patted the satchel that held the stacks of cash. You slowed down as you neared the hitching posts.
You tossed the satchel to Lenny as he began counting the shares for you, Sean and the camp. You hopped off your horse, expecting to see Arthur coming towards you, but that wasn't the case.
You frowned as you walked further into camp, looking for any sign of him. "Hey, John." You called after the man who was standing near the main table. "What can I do for ya?" He asked as you made your way towards him. "How come Arthur ain't here?" You asked and John immediately looked guilty.
"Uh he's got some business to attend to." He scratched the back of his neck as he began to walk away from you. "What sorta business?" You asked and he stood still. "I ain't know nothing Miss Y/N. Just that he got some letter from Mary and is meeting her." John walked away and towards the tent he and Abigail shared.
"Mary?" You whispered to yourself as you thought back to the conversation with him at the saloon. That must've been the fiance. You frowned as you dug your heels into the dirt. You kept yourself calm as you sat at the table, making yourself comfortable as you watched the entrance of the camp.
It felt like you had been waiting there for hours until Arthur finally came riding into camp. The first person he noticed was you and his face lit up. You kept a straight face as he came walking towards you, his hands on his hips.
"I heard you robbed a stage coach with Sean and Lenny today." Arthur patted your back as he passed by you. "Yeah, and what, you met Mary today?" Arthur stopped in his tracks and looked back at you. "How'd you know that?" He asked as you stood up to face him.
"John. He ain't a good secret keeper." You crossed your arms over your chest, not taking your eyes off of Arthur. "Listen, you know I'm done with her. No feelings whatsoever." Arthur rested his hand on your shoulder, which you quickly shoved off. "If there ain't any feelings, why you meeting her?" You could feel your anger rise as you continued to look at Arthur.
"You really think I went there cause I fancy her?" Arthur began to raise his voice, causing you to flinch. "I don't know, you tell me Arthur Morgan!" You matched your volume with his and you could tell he was taken aback by your aggressiveness. "You don't trust me? I already told you she left me cause I ain't change." Arthur clenched his fists as he got closer to you.
"That ain't mean nothing. You still went there for her." Your voice began to get shaky as you got angrier. "Stop getting so defensive and listen to me." Arthur finally got close enough to you where you could feel his warm breath on your face.
"It ain't like that Y/N. he asked to meet cause she's leaving. I went there to end things for good." Arthur reached out, taking your hands into his. "How am I supposed to know you're telling the truth?" You held his hands as you began to tear up. "What, you want me to show you the letter, cause I will." Arthur dug into his pocket, tossing you the crumpled up letter onto the ground.
You stared down at the letter, your tears dropping onto the ground. "Look at me straight, Y/N." Arthur placed his fingers against your chin, forcing you to look up at him.
"I love you more than anything, there ain't no reason for me to still love Mary. She's the past and I'm focused on you." Arthur pressed his lips against your forehead and pushed his hands through your hair. "I'm sorry. I was just afraid she's something I ain't." You buried your face into his chest, letting the tears soak into his shirt. "You're everything to me Y/N, don't you ever doubt that."
