Chapter 17- I messed up

Federico dragged Kai to the waiting room where we all sat down waiting, because that was the only thing we could do right now, sit and wait. I really hope she pulls through because she is a sunshine that we need in our lives especially Federico and Kai. Federico took his phone out calling someone.

“Mamma. Ho bisogno di dirti una cosa e voglio che ti calmi e non ti  fai prendere del panico.” (Mom. I need to tell you something and I want you to calm down and not panick.) He sighed before continuing. “Aria viene colpita, e in sala operatoria.” (Aria is shot, she is in surgery.) He said, tears gathering in his eyes. I placed my hand on his squeezing it tightly so he can know I am here. “Mamma per favore non piangere.” (Mom please don’t cry.) He pleaded his voice breaking. It hurt me to see him sad and broken like right now but I understand why he feels like this, its his baby sister. God I wish I could take his pain so he wouldn’t suffer. “Sto mandando un aereo per voi ragazzi. Dillo a papà e vieni qui.” (I am sending a plane for you guys. Tell dad and come here.) He said. “Addio. A presto.” (Bye. See you soon.) He said before ending the call and getting up from his seat.

I followed behind him just to make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid. He entered the bathroom before slamming his fist onto the wall. I stopped him before he can continue hurting himself. “Stop. Federico you are hurting yourself. Nothing will be better if you do that baby please stop.” I pleaded. “You don’t understand. The cry I heard from my mother, the lifeless eyes of my sister. It is tearing me apart. Knowing that I didn’t protect her.” He said shaking his head. “I understand that you are hurting but-” I started but he interrupted me. “Oh really? How can you understand when you don’t have any family? They abandoned you. How can you know the pain I am feeling?” He said and I looked at him wide eyed. “What?” I asked in disbelief. “You heard me. You could never understand because you never felt the love of family.” He continued and I had enough.

I raised my hand and slapped him. His head turned from the impact. “This is the last time you talked to me like that.” I said before leaving the bathroom and going back to the waiting room not caring what he does there alone. I sat down wanting to just go back home after the shit he just said to me but I also needed to stay for my best friend because at this moment she is more important than our drama.

A few moments later Federico entered the waiting room to, making his way towards me. I rolled my eyes getting up to leave but he was already in front of me embracing me into a tight hug. “I am so sorry for what I said. I swear I didn’t mean it. I love you. I am just scared about Aria and it hurts baby. I am sorry I took it out on you.” He said. I stayed in spot not moving my arms to hug him back. “I understand that you are worried but that shit you said was nasty and it hurt.” I said trying to pull away from him but he just held me tighter. “I know. I messed up and it hurts me that I offended you. I will do anything to make it up to you.” He said pulling away a bit to look at me and I really saw regret in his eyes. “Wait. Pause a second.” We heard Nicholas say. Oh yeah they were here the whole time. I forgot. Shit.

“What the hell did you do asshole?” He asked coming towards Federico and I. “Oh nothing much just  said that I don’t understand his pain because I don’t have any family and they didn’t want me.” I said shrugging casually. Federico looked down in guilt. “You what?” Nicholas asked shocked. “Are you for real?” Kai asked also getting up. “Aria would break your neck if she knew what you did.” He added. “And Hailey don’t worry. We are your family no matter what this idiot says.” He continued pulling me into a hug. “Thank you for staying here for Aria and not leaving immediately. I know I would if I was in your position.” He finished pulling away from the hug. “Its okay. She is like my sister of course I will stay no matter what.” I answered. “Okay that is enough hugging I want to hug her to thank you very much.” Federico said from behind me and suddenly I was pulled back into him.
