Nova sat on her bed, finishing off some homework that Mrs. Cooper had assigned her earlier in the week. It'd been a few more months and she was willing herself not to get attached to her fake family because she knew her mission was coming to an end and soon. She was expecting an envelope to come in the post for her any day now.
Lucky her, that day was today.
"Nova, you have some post, sweetheart. I think it's from your friends at the academy." Kerry smiled, leaning against her open door.
"Thank you." Nova signed to her and Kerry placed it on her bed, beside her text books.
"We thought we'd have a takeaway tonight. How does the chippy sound?" Kerry asked her, hands on her hips.
"Good, thank you." Nova replied and Kerry nodded.
"I'll leave you to finish your homework." Kerry mused, leaving the door open as she left the room.
Once she had left, Nova opened the envelope, an earpiece falling into her hand along with a fake note from 'Jenny'. She knew it was fake because Jenny had different handwriting. Closing the door quickly, she slipped the earpiece in, hearing some mumbling from the other end.
"Nova." Winter's voice crackled through and her eyebrows furrowed. "It's not exactly the best way to communicate because you can't talk back but your mission's nearly over. It's time to finish it."
Fuck, was Nova's only thought.
"You gotta get rid of them, no witnesses, okay? Then, when it's over, go into the forest a few houses down. We're waiting in there for you." Winter explained. "Knock on something if you understand." She knocked on her set of drawers quietly. "Good, okay. Complete your mission, Nova."
As casually as she could, Nova walked downstairs, spotting George in the living room on a phone call, Kerry not in any of the rooms so she assumed she was in the bathroom. James and Sophie were in their bedrooms so she'd kill them last. Grabbing a knife from the knife block, she walked into the living room with it hidden behind her back.
"Nova, could you just wait outside until I've finished this call?" George asked and she shook her head. "Is something wrong?" She nodded. "Okay. Right, Mick, I'll talk to you in a moment. My daughter just needs some help."
Daughter... She was about to kill someone that thought of her as an actual human being instead of a weapon to be used.
"What's the matter?" George questioned as she took a quick breath.
Making the job as quick as she possibly could, she wielded the knife and stabbed him in the stomach, twisting the blade. George gasped in pain, staring down at her in shock as she slashed the knife to the side, cutting him open. Pushing him to the floor with ease, she left the room, not looking back at the person she just killed.
"George!" Kerry yelped, walking into the living room by the doors that connected it to the bathroom. "Oh, my God!"
Silently, Nova crept up behind her and grabbed her hair, pulling her head back to slash her throat, deep enough to kill her. Kerry slumped to the floor, both her and her husband now dead. The girl looked up when footsteps sounded on the stairs, both James and Sophie gasping, steps slamming to a stop when they spotted their parents dead.
"Nova!" Sophie shouted in a panic before she spied the blood on her and the knife in her hand. "Why?"
Sophie didn't get a reply before a knife was barrelling towards her, stabbing her in the neck. She gave a choked sob, falling to the floor by her brothers feet. James stared in horror as his sister bled out, frozen in place. Nova strode over to them, pulling the knife from Sophie's neck before stabbing James in the stomach repeatedly until she knew he wouldn't survive.
Running to Kerry's office, she snatched the computer from where it was charging currently, tucking it under her arm, needing to take it for the information that the Red Room needed from Kerry.
When she new they were all dead, Nova ran from the living room and out of the back door. Hopping over many fences, she ran until the woods were in sight. Pushing past trees, her legs scraped on some of the branches and thorns sticking out, her skin bleeding ever so slightly as they ripped over her flesh.
Spotting the jet, she sped towards it and the doors opened wide for her to go inside. Doing so, they closed once she was in, the jet started up. Pulling the earpiece out, she placed it down, sitting on one of the seats, her denim shorts and white t-shirt coated in the blood of her temporary family.
"Your first mission done." Winter mused, taking out his com and moving to strap himself in beside her. "It won't be your last. I think Madam B has one for you soon."
"No more fake families. Just random people." She signed, wiping blood from her face with her fingers.
"This was just to get information." Winter told her. "Others will be easier."
"I doubt killing gets easier."
