Chapter 19: Surprise (Erik's POV)

The palace was quiet after six tense weeks. Since my uncle presented the idea of me and Eliza getting married, everyone was nervy and unbearable. Eliza used to come into my room and bother me, once she even dared to touch me in a way I didn't want to be touched by her. My parents were anxious about finding way to turn the offer down in a calm and civil way, and I was upset about my future. I couldn't imagine myself being wed to my cousin. My aunt was tormenting me with our family history and the benefits of me marrying her daughter. I was surprised she didn't say anything when Ana came to the palace.

"What are you thinking about?" Ana's voice brought me back to reality.

We were siting in the main living room. She was reading a book, scrunched in the wooden armchair, rocking herself back and forth. I was siting on the couch looking through the window.

"Nothing, I was just enjoying the calmness" I smiled.

"It's too quiet, even I can't get used to it" she giggled, looking up at me and then back in the book.

"How's the book?"

I didn't know she was such a bookworm. Every single spare moment that she had, she held a book. And I love it. Even the smallest thing she does I literally adore. Love is a strange thing. It comes quickly and you hope it will last forever.

Forever. F o r e v e r? The word got stuck in my brain.

"It's interesting so far, I already have some theories" she was talking as I stood up "are you going somewhere?" she looked at me confused.

"Yes. I'll be back soon" I kissed her forehead and left the room.

I'm going to propose to her. Hell yes I'm.

I wanted to marry Ana no matter what. I knew that since the day I met her. She awakened something in me that even I couldn't explain what. I have a list of ladies that I've been with, but never in my life I was attached by only a sight. I guess that's how you know you've met the one.

I stormed in Cassian's room and found him laying in bed, his eyes closed and him being focused on the breath.

"Cassi, bro" I whispered but he didn't respond "Cassian!" I jelled.

He opened his eyes and got up so quickly, terrified "You scared the shit out of me. What?" he held his hand on his chest.

"What are you doing?" I gave him a confused look.

"I was meditating"

"Okay, leave that for later. Come with me"

"Where? What are you so excited about?" he got out of bed and grabbed his phone.

"I'm going to propose to Ana, but I need someone to help me buy some things and set everything up"

"Oh my god! Finally! About damn time!" he started screaming and hugged me "My little bro is going to propose to his lady" he smiled.

"Let's go" I said.

We rushed to my car and quickly got out of the main gates. I had an idea in mind and I knew where exactly to go.

I stopped the car in front of the jewelry shop.

"No! Don't buy a ring" Cassian said.

"How am I going to propose without a ring?" I turned to him.

"Before grandpa died he left me a ring that he was supposed to propose to Sofie. He told me that whoever is going to marry an ordinary girl should wear that ring. He said if none of us marry a non-royal girl, we should pass it to our children or our grandchildren until someone decides to marry a non-royal girl. That was his last wish. He said that the ring represents victory against the royal corruption"
