Chapter 18: Goodbye (Ana's POV)
We were storming around the garden. The morning was beautiful and peaceful. We sat on one bench and the sun lit our faces. I put my head on Erik's shoulder "What's going to happen now?"
He rubbed my hand with his thumb "I don't know. I didn't expect my father to make such decision" he cleared his throat "But I think it's for the best"
"I must agree"
We were sitting in silence when the king, the queen and Cassian approached us "Ana, um- I can't explain how sorry I am, how sorry we all are" his father said "And we will make sure you will be okay from now on" the queen added.
"Thank you, you don't have to apologies it's not your fault" I smiled "I really appreciate you caring about me"
"Of course, we care about you. Besides I always knew that those idiots can't even touch you" Cassian sat down and gave me a hug.
Out of everyone I liked Cassian the most. He is very wholesome, his energy is very warm and nurturing, everybody would love to be in his company. From day one he treated me like I'm his friend, he never made me feel like I don't belong here. I'm glad Erik has such a good older brother and I'm more than glad that he looks up to him. The only difference between them is that Erik is more outgoing and has way more energy and he's more cunning for sure.
"My brother and his family are getting ready to leave. They will settle in one of our mansions temporarily but as soon as they find a place to live, they bill be out of our lives" the king said "Keep a distance with them today, they are all mad, especially Andreis and Eliza. Eliza almost had a stroke."
We all giggled a bit. I could imagine Eliza having a breakdown, pulling her hair with her hands. Her dreams of marrying Erik crushed, and she lost her title as a princess just a few weeks later. How sad.
"I'm sure they will be fine" Erik nodded.
"I will go upstairs" I said standing up.
"Breakfast is ready" the queen looked at me.
"I'm not hungry" I smiled and went inside.
I found Andreis on the stairs. When he noticed me he came down the stairs "Well Ana, I guess you will be written in history. Imagine the title of the lecture 'The ordinary girl who ruined the royal family of Vremineian' you should be proud of yourself" he nodded.
"I didn't ruin anything, your father did" I looked at him holding my chin up "And yes I'm proud of myself, but not because I made you leave the palace, but because I didn't let some imbeciles ruin my life" I wanted to go upstairs but he grabbed my arm
"Actually, you are right. My father made all of us clowns, we deserve it. But he is still my father, and I can't pretend like I'm not hurt or disappointed."
"And you think I'm not hurt or disappointed? I never thought a person, actually a family would have such hatred for another human. I've met some nasty people in my life but all of them were addicts or some type of underground people. You on the other side are royals and you still act worse than them, even though you're supposed to be wholesome and friendly" I poked his chest with my finger.
He let go of my arm and held his hands up in surrender "Yes, I can't say it's not like that. I'm sorry that we've been such a trouble to you"
"Whatever" I went upstairs without looking at him.
He seemed the most normal of out of them. I couldn't determine his intentions, he was mostly kind but his kindness seemed forced. He occasionally apologized for his sister's behavior and now he admitted that his father was wrong. But at the same time, he didn't disagree on marrying Eliza and Erik, or at least I never heard him state his opinion on that. Maybe he is a good person, but he is afraid to disagree with his father. He constantly tries to be like Erik, maybe he's not envy of him, maybe he looks up to him. Whatever his behavior meant, it was none of my concerns. His mom on the other side was quiet all the time. I never heard her spoke or giggle, nor I saw her anywhere except during meals. Strange people.
I went in my room. I didn't know what to do, I just wanted to be alone. As soon as I laid on the bed my eyes closed, and I fell asleep.
I woke up by a sudden noise, I rubbed my eyes and sharpened my ears. A moment later I realized it was Issaac's family preparing to leave. I went downstairs and found them putting their things in the trunk of the car.
"No goodbye?" I raised my eyebrows. They all turned to me shocked and angry but stayed silent. The queen tapped my shoulder and when I turned to her, she smiled at me. Everyone came outside to see them leave and I saw some hidden smiles on the faces of the palace maids. They must be relieved that those idiots will leave the palace forever.
The car started and drove away. We all watched the car in the distance until it disappeared. Erik put his arm around me and kissed me on the side of my forehead. Finally, a peace surrounded the palace.
But it was not over, I could feel it.
Erik and I went upstairs to our room. We sat on the sofa, he leaned his back on it and I laid on his chest, "I still can't believe what happened" he said while playing with my hair, "I guess I had blind faith in my uncle. I never thought that he will do such thing"
"Don't be hard on your self Erik, he is your uncle, of course you trusted him. But they are gone now, I hope they will realize their mistakes".
"They better"
