I thought I was invincible

Chapter 21

I thought everything was over, that we were finally in a good place, but I was wrong.

It was early afternoon one day, it was raining. I was just getting over a cold. Cameron and I were sitting in my living room watching Netflix. Well he was watching Netflix, I was napping. The door bell woke me up.
I started to get up.
"No, Nicolette, you rest, I'll get it" Cam said
I smiled and gave him a kiss. He got up from the couch and walked to the door. The front door leads in to the living room but whoever was at the door wouldn't be able to see me.
Cam unlocked the door and opened it.
"Nash!" Cam yelled.
My eyes widened.
I saw them hug and then they started talking.
"What are you doing here? I thought you were in Spokane?" Cam asked frantically
"I was. Well, I am, I'm going back before school starts but My parents let me come visit for the rest of the summer!" Nash said.
"That's great! I'm so happy that your back! how come you didn't tell me that you were coming?"
"Well I wanted to surprise you, after I surprised Nicolette, where is she?"
My heart stopped. What should I do? Go to the door? Act like I'm not listening? Hide?
"Umm" Cameron hesitated
"One sec" he closed the door a little, leaving it ajar.
"Nicolette" he pretended to call me while he whispered.
"Come on, just say that we're working on something or something, I don't know"
I nodded, fixed my hair, and went to the door. Cam opened the door and Nash's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Nicolette!" He said as he hugged me
"Hey Nash!" I said
When he pulled out of the hug, he tried to subtly lean in for a kiss but I quickly pulled away before Cam noticed. Nash looked somewhat disappointed but I gave him a slight smile and he looked better.
"Come in" I said
He stepped inside and set his things down. I had moved the blanket that Cam and I were using and turned off the TV before I went to the door so that nothing looked suspicious.
"So what are you guys up too?" Nash asked
Oh no.
Cam didn't say anything so I spoke
"We were fixing the treehouse, for Mackenzie. It got damaged in a storm last week and we haven't had the chance to fix it until today"
"Oh" Nash nodded
Cam looked surprised at my excuse. There was an awkward silence until Nash offered to help, with the treehouse.
"I could help you guys, if you need help"
"That's okay, we finished right before you got here" Cam said quickly
"Oh okay, well do you guys wanna hang out? Maybe with Skylar? Like old times?" Nash asked
"Sure" I said
"Yeah, okay" Cam added.
"I'll call Skylar, we can pick her up on the way to wherever we're going"
The guys nodded and I walked in to my room to call Skylar

"Hey Nicolette" she said when she answered the phone.
"Hey, Nash is here"
"What? Where?"
"Here. at my house, and Cams here too"
"What?! Does Nash know about you and Cameron?"
"No, but Nash wants to hang out with you and me and Cam like 'old times'"
"Okay, where are we going?"
"I don't know, but we're going to pick you up on the way"
"Okay, but be careful"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't get to close to Cameron, don't call him Cam because you barely ever used to, and try to stay close to Nash"
"He tried to kiss me"
"Nash?"
"Yeah but I pulled away and Cam- Cameron didn't notice"
"Okay that's good, just be careful and text me when your on your way"
"Okay, bye"
"Bye"
She hung up and then I changed and put on some makeup. I went back out to the living room and the guys were talking.
"So where are we going?" I asked, breaking there conversation.
"I was thinking a movie" Nash said
"Sure" Cam said
I glanced at him. A movie was not a good idea. Where would I sit? I had to fight the urge to hold Cams hand or lay my head on his shoulder and I couldn't let Nash do anything either.
Once we decided on a movie, we went to pick up Skylar. We took My Car. Cam was driving, Nash was next to him and I was in the back.

Nicolette: We're leaving now, going to the movies

Skylar: movies? Who picked that?

Nicolette: Nash

Skylar: you know what that means. He's gonna try to make a move, you can't let him

Nicolette: I know I'll try to sit by you or Cam

Skylar: but you can't make it look like your avoiding him

Nicolette: ugh this is too hard

Skylar: you could tell him about you and cam

Nicolette: Never. We're here

Skylar: coming

Skylar ran out to the car, greeted Nash, and then sat beside me.

"So got a Boyfriend yet, Skylar?" Nash asked

"Nope, still single" Skylar said

"Cam, you still haven't asked her out?" Nash whispered but we could hear him

"Nash, stop" Cam said

"Okay, jeez. Since when are you so sensitive?"

"I don't like her, she doesn't like me, just drop it"

Nash stayed silent after that. I could tell he had more questions but he thought he was making Cam mad so he didn't ask any of them.

After we got our tickets, we went straight to the theatre and sat down. Cam was on the end, Nash next to him, then me, and then Skylar on the other end. I hated not sitting next to Cam and I was worried that Nash was going to try to make a move, so I scooted as close as I could to Skylar. It was gonna be a long movie.

Everything was going fine until about halfway through the movie. I had my arm on the armrest between Nash and I, and then he acted like my arm wasn't there and put his on it to.
"Sorry" he said
"It's fine" I said
So I put my hand underneath the armrest and a few mins later he put his fingers on mine and tried to hold my hand but I moved my hand so it was resting on my thigh. I didn't look at him and neither of us said anything, I kept wondering if Cam had saw.
Nash didn't try anything else during the movie. When it was over and we were walking out, Nash and Skylar were talking and Cam and I were walking behind them.
"Did you see what he did?" I asked Cam
"The hand thing? Yeah I saw. I saw you pull away. I know that was awkward for you. I'm sorry, I should have tried to sit next to you but I didn't want it to look suspicious"
"I know, it's okay. It was probably more awkward for him"
Cam nodded.
We went out to an early dinner after that. Skylar and I sat next to each other, Nash was across from me, and Cam was across from Skylar.
During Dinner we caught up Nash on everything's that happened (leaving out the details of me and Cam, of course). We told him about Hanna cheating (We're not mad anymore, neither is she) and we mentioned what Mackenzie did when Cam was in the bathroom because we knew that he wouldn't want to talk about it.

After dinner, we dropped off Skylar, then Cam, and then Nash pulled in to my driveway. Since he was driving my car, he got out and handed me my keys.
"I left my bags in your house" he said
"Okay, you can come get them" I said
We walked to the door and I used my house key to open the door. I was about to step inside but then Nash put his hand on my back
"Nicolette" he said softly
I turned around slowly and he kissed me. I pushed him away.
"Nash" I said "we broke up"
"I know. I just thought.." His voice trailed off.
I stepped inside, grabbed his stuff and handed it to him. And then I shut the door.
