I thought I was invincible

Chapter 28

I regained consciousness a few minutes later. I was in an ambulance. Cam was on one side of me, and a paramedic on the other. Cam spoke to me softly but I couldn't understand him. The paramedic listened to my heartbeat and told me that we were almost there.

Minutes later, we pulled in by the hospital and I was taken into the E.R.
I was unconscious for awhile and I woke up in one of the E.R. beds. Cam was right by my side and he sighed in relief when I opened my eyes.
A nurse checked my pupils and my heartbeat and then called a doctor over.
"The glass cut into your skull and broke some tissue but we were able to repair it so you should be ready to go home tomorrow but you will have a severe headache for a week or so"
"Alright thanks" I said rubbing my head
"Can she get some pain killers or something?" Cam asked as he held my hand
"Yes I believe it's been a few hours so nurse, give her another dose?" The doctor said
"Right away" said the nurse as she pushed a needle into my I.V.
The doctor told me that my aunt was on her way and then him and the nurse both left.
"I'm sorry..." Cam said "I should've come in sooner..."
"It's not your fault. You couldn't hear us from outside"
"Yeah but-"
"But you did come in. And that's all that matters" I cut him off
He kissed my cheek.
Just then my aunt came in.
"Nicolette!" She ran over to hug me
"Are you okay? I'm sorry I couldn't be here sooner"
"It's alright, I'm fine"
she thanked Cameron for being there for me and went to talk to the doctor.
"The police want to talk to you" Cam whispered to me
"What? Why?" My eyes got puffy and my stomach tightened. I knew why.
"Because of the fight and your injuries and Nash-"
I started crying so he stopped talking. He rubbed my back as I turned on my side, facing him.
"Did they talk to you?" I sniffled
"Not yet but they want to"
"Do I have to?"
He nodded.
"Will you go first?" I asked him
"Sure"
"Cam...what hap-where's Na-" I couldn't say his name.
"The police arrested him"
We sat in silence for a little before the doctor cam in again.
"Nicolette, the police would like to ask you a few questions, is that okay?"
I nodded and sat up right.
The doctor left and a women came in.
"Hi Nicolette, I'm detective Robbins. I'm going to need to ask you and your friend a few questions" she said
"Boyfriend" I corrected
"right, sorry"
"Can you question me first?" Cam asked
"Sure" she said, sitting down across from Cam.
"Okay so where were you when the initial attack occurred?"
"Outside"
"Why?"
Cam told her why he was trying to avoid Nash and why he was outside.
"I see so when did you come inside?"
"Well it had been awhile so I looked through the window and saw Nash on top of Nicolette so I ran in"
"And then what?"
"I push him off of her and punched him a few times and then I went over to Nicolette to see how she was, then he attacked me"
"He punched you? And you punched him back?"
"Yeah we fought until Nash stopped punching then I went back to Nicolette"
"Why'd he stop?"
"He was trying to get to Nicolette, to apologize but I wouldn't let him"
"How did you keep him away from her?"
"I pushed him. not hard, just enough so that he couldn't touch her"
"And you called 911 at this time, correct?"
"Yes"
"Ok thank you. Nicolette, are you ready?" She asked, turning towards me.
I nodded and clenched Cams hand again.
"Alright I heard what happened after Cameron came in, so what happened before that?"
"He came in, he knew I lied about dating Josh and when I denied it he started yelling at me. When he found out that I was dating Cam-Cameron he got really mad and then he apologized for yelling and he-he asked me if Cameron and I.."
"if you've had sexual intercourse?"
I nodded. I could feel Cam staring at me but I didn't look at him. I couldn't.
"I shook my head now and I was crying, then he started taking off my shirt" I began crying again and Cam squeezed my hand.
"I begged him to stop, I tried to get away but he just slammed me against the wall.
He took off his shirt and I tried to run but he slapped me. He kept undressing me and kissing me and I begged him to stop. When I got the chance, I screamed for Cameron and he told me to shut up"
"And you didn't hear that, Cameron?" Detective Robbins asked.
"No" he said
"Okay, continue" she said
"Um I grabbed this glass pot and hit his shoulder and he fell over and um I ran but he came up behind me and hit me with the broken pot and I fell and then he dragged me back in the living room. I couldn't move or speak much and I could feel him undressing me but I couldn't do anything, I just kept crying and then Cameron came in"
"So if Cameron had not come in, and Nash had continued, it would have not have been consensual? Is that what your saying?"
I nodded and started crying again.
"Alright thank you both for your time"
When she left the room, Cam held me in his arms while I cried.
He was crying too but quietly.
My aunt cam back in.
"Cameron, may I have a moment alone with Nicolette?"
Cam nodded and left the room, Aunt Hayley sat on the end of my bed.
"Nash he um he's going under house arrest for 60 days for assault and attempted rape"
I nodded. I could tell she wanted me to talk about what happened but I didn't want to talk about it.
"You get some rest and I'll take you home in the morning"
"Okay. love you" I said
"Love you too" she said kissing my cheek.
A nurse came in one last time and gave me some pain reliever that also made me sleepy. My aunt slept in the chair next to my bed and Cam slept in the waiting room. I fell asleep as soon as they left my room.
