Chapter 29: Forever Boyfriend

I got off the bus with Sophia and walked silently as she yelled at Racheal. Sophia had never talked very loud, so it surprised me when started yelling at her on the bus. Racheal was upset that Sophia hadn't invited her over to study with us. Honestly it didn't bug me if she was there or not. I was just excited I was going to be spending time with her. Maybe there would be kissing if she was up for it. In the end Sophia told Rachel should could come over. Reading Rachel's thoughts she was still trying to get close to me just so I could some how give Ben a good word about her. Over the last few weeks Ben hasn't been talking to her or texting her back. From what he told me, he was over her. Which was a shock to me because he been had a thing for her since middle school.
"Mom?" Sopha called as she held my hand going into the kitchen. Right away when he mother saw my face, I could see she didn't care for me. From her thoughts I could tell it was because I was a guy. Which sucked cause I hadn't said one word yet. But it made me happy because the way I looked at nothing to do with it.
"You must be the famous Riley, Sophia talks about you non stop." I smiled at Mrs. Reed. Sophia told me that her dad wasn't around much. He just visited every now and then. I told her my dad was kind of like that. I mostly built the lie in middle school that my dad was a detective and so he wasn't home much. Which wasn't a lie too much. He was a detective for the vampire court like my mom is a cop. The reason he wasn't around was to keep me and my mom safe. Which sucked ass cause I missed my dad like crazy. I could see when my dad was gone how sad my mom was for a few days.

"Hi, Mrs. Reed. It's nice to meet you." I looked at Sophia who's face was bright red. Rachel peeked over me and Mrs. Reed. Her face expression changed, which almost made me laugh. Mrs. Reed didn't like Rachel at all. Thought she wasn't good for "Her baby" to be around.
"Hey Mrs. Reed. You don't mind if we study upstairs do you?" Mrs. Reed's thoughts grew angry as the poor girl talked. Wanting to tell her to get out of her house.
"Sure you can love." Sophia pulled me along beside her. I liked when she did that. If she talked about me a lot that means she really liked me. Note to self: some how get Sophia to tell me if we are boyfriend and girlfriend. We walked up the stairs to the first room on the left. Her room was everything I thought it would be. For years I often wondered what her room looked like. I was right about everything just few minor things were missing. It was all girly looking. No pink walls sadly, but she had a barbie collection that sat to the left her room. Frilly last covers and stuffed animals. I was looking at the bed when I realized. I had no idea where I should sit down. Fuck. I had never been to a girl's room before. My eyes quickly saw a desk. I pulled out the chair and sat down. Rachel gave me a dirty look.
Two hours later.
"Your mom said there is snacks in the kitchen, I'll go bring us something." I put my book down and got up. Honestly I was beyond hungry, if I knew I was gonna come over I would have had some blood. I went into kitchen and I found some neatly made sandwiches made neatly in the refrigerator. I took out the plate. I could feel Rachel behind me.
"You know, I really don't see what she sees in you." I rolled my eyes and put the plate on the counter. I was sure there were napkins. "Sophia could go out with cute popular guy. But choose to go out with a freak like you."
"You gonna help me find napkins are not?" It felt a littlkw hot to me.If she kept talking, my fangs would come out.
"Why does Ben even see you?" She snatched open the drawer behind me. I raised one eyebrow at her. I went back to the fridge for milk. When I did, Rachel was right behind me.
"If you were really her friend you would back off and be supportive? You don't have to like me, didn't ask you too." I turned around and looked at her.
"Why should I? You're so odd, and you're starting to get in my way. I wanted to start high school with a boyfriend and cool friends. Then here you come, no matter where I am your there. You got in the way of my boyfriend. You're in the way of my friends. I try out for cheerleading and there you are. Every damn practice I have too look at you."
"Guys what's taking so long!" Sophia called.
"Were coming, just looking for chips." I told her back. My eyes then turned to Rachel. When I looked her I began to search her brain. I pushed into her mind more and more. I could see myself looking back at her. "Go home." Her eyes was glazed over, not fully there.
"I must go home...."
"Tell Sophia you got cramps." Rachel eyes blinked when I moved my mind out of her thoughts, she rolled her eyes. I turned and picked up the sandwiches, chips and milk. Following Rachel back up stairs, I was nervous. I never really talked to my dad about this. I had never heard of any vampire having the ability to read human thoughts. Which worried me, if I had powers beyond this.
"I'm going home, I don't feel well. I have cramps." Rachel picked up her things.
"You want me and Riley to walk you." Quickly thinking I tried again.
"No, I'll call you when I get home." Just like that Rachel left.
"That was odd." I sat back down on the floor getting a sandwich. "You wanna watch a movie?"
"Sure, my brain is tired." Sophia sat down next to me. I watched as she turned on the TV. I remember once when we were kids she came over to my house. We played outside and mom let us watch TV. Even then she watched the TV wide eyed with curiosity.
"You always look like that in class, like you're lost in your own world." I smiled at her.
"So you watch me?" I smiled at her and she blushed.
"Something like that." I came closer to her. I could feel her shaking.
"You don't have to be nervous." Who the hell was I kidding. I was nervous too. When Sophia turn towards me, I kissed her. I felt kind of hot again, odd I never get hot.Her heart beat was so loud. I smiled at her. "So does this make me your boyfriend?" Sophia blinked a few times then smiled.
"Sometimes the answer we are looking for are right in front of us." I took her hand in mind. We both turned back to the t.v. As I watched the movie, her words repeated in my head. Yes, it was cleared up if I was her boyfriend. Yet, it felt like her words unlocked something in my mind. What if there was more to Ben's sleep walking? What if someone was keeping me out part of his brain? Something was right in front my face and I couldn't see it.
"Hey Sophia, you think Saturday you could come over to my house?" I asked breaking away from her. "Its getting late and I am sure my mom is wonder where I am." I watched the credits rolled on the screen.
"Yes, I would like took." I picked up my backpack and kissed her cheek.
"You got that look on your face, like you're off into your own world Riley. Makes me wonder, like you're hiding something." I hugged her tight and let go.
"Maybe one day, when the time is right. I'll let you all night." Sophia walked with me down stairs and halfway down the sidewalk. When I got on the bus my phone rang
"How did you get my number?" Ben must have given Ava my number.
"Never mind that, just meet me at your house and bring wolf girl." She hung up. At the next stop I got off and made a run for it, somehow Jazz found me. When I got to my house everyone was there.
"Where's Ben?" Jazz asked. He wasn't in the house.
"That's what this is about." My dad said drying his hair. He must have been taking a shower.
"Ava said she found out some information." My mom said still in her uniform. Uncle Kevin walked in the back door with Uncle Darrick.
"I talked to the elders of my clan." Ava said. "They said, when the venom is put into a human and the blood between the vampire isn't exchanged it creates a drudge. When a drudge is created, the vampire has controlled of the human."
"So what you're saying, Ben is someone's drudge?" Jazz asked.
"No it's more to it. Its not the bigger picture." I told her. I wasn't seeing it but I was sure Ava did.
"Riley is right. The other vampire is controlling his dreams, and he is acting them out by sleep walking. That stuff he drunk wasn't there by accident. It was meant for Ben to be bitten by the only vampire around him. Riley was suppose to die. " Everyone looked at me, but my parents.
"Which means someone knows about Riley." Uncle Kevin said taking a seat on the sofa.
"The question is how." Uncle Derrick replied. "We made sure, that no one would ever find Raven or Riley."
"No, I did what I could to shield him. You sat on your ass like the court and played dead." Mom snapped.
"It's been fourteen years and you're still holding on to that Raven." Uncle Derrick said back to my mom. "If you did what I told you too, this wouldn't be happening." Dad stepped in between them.
"Yelling isn't gonna help anything." I told both of them. "There are so many gaps in this story, that no one is trying to fill in for me. You two have got to hiding shit from me. Someone is after me, my best friend is turning into an assassin for all I know, things are happen....." I fell over to my knees. It felt like I was on fire. Jazz scrambled back from me.
"He smells so bad, I can't take it..." My heart was beating loud, I could hear a crackling sound in my eyes. I screamed so loud.
"Its time!" Dad pushed everyone away. I wanted to burst out my skin. I heard glass breaking somewhere. I wanted blood. Dad came closer to me and I growled at him. I was snatched from behind. The pain in my body was too much. "Take him to the basement...." I couldn't control myself, I wanted take my clothes off I wanted to jump out my skin. The pain was becoming too much....
