I laid in my bed not really able to go back to sleep. I was too busy listening to my parents talking. I could hear Ben down stairs snoring. Good thing today was Saturday, I didn't feel like school. I reached for my phone and texted "Good Morning" I put my phone back down and got up. Soon as the bed moved my parents stopped talking. I came out of my room and came down the staircase. Both my parents watched me I was carrying the first aid kit. I took the chair out the corner and sat it next to sofa where Ben was. I opened the kit and started cleaning the cut. When I put the alcohol paid to the cut Ben's eyes popped open.

"That burns like hell." He mumbled softly. "Do you feel better at least?" I took out bandage. Honestly I was still pissed off.

"There is no reason for you to be upset." My father's voice said in my head. I didn't turn to look at him. I just wanted to leave my thoughts alone.

"A little. I'm sorry about your head." I closed the first aid kit. Ben was about to say something but he falling asleep. I focused on him. I closed my eyes and entered his thoughts. "Just listen to my voice and relax" Ben's breathing became soft and light. "You won't have any nightmares. You'll wake up rested and relax." I eased myself out his thoughts.

"You two have strong bound. I don't understand why you won't turn him into your dredge." My dad said out loud. I turned to him. When I did I noticed the coffee table I broke was gone.

"I don't have any brothers or sisters. My friends take the place of that. No matter if we aren't the same species. I don't want a dredge and I don't want to take Ben off the path he is on. He isn't meant to be in my life in this way." I folded my arms. I didn't feel like talking to him.

"You know this how?" My mom asked.

"Just a feeling I have. Hopefully Dad can find a way to break the bound." Dad nodded.

"I will. I and Ava leave in two days. She's out now handling a few things with Ben's parents and the high school. We are gonna head up to Canada first. In four weeks you'll be coming to join me. A week after your mother will join us for Christmas and New Years." Mom smiled real big

"So in a few weeks its my birthday. Wait so we will get spend Christmas together, all together?" Before I knew it I was excited

"I thought it would be nice if we spent some time together." I smiled at my dad.

"I'm sorry about the table and yelling and stuff." Mom smiled at me.

"Its okay, because you're grounded for two week." What the fuck! "You're not gonna throwing tantrums and breaking shit every time you get mad. No TV, no games, no phone, no laptop. Ben and Jazz can't come over. You're going to be working with me after practice to pay for that table."

"But Mom....

"Don't but mom me. Grounded, two weeks." Mom held up two fingers. "Now put your shoes on, we're going for a walk." I didn't say anything. I went up stairs and got my shoes. I put them on and followed Mom outside and we started walking.

"Mom I'm really sorry about the coffee table." I we entered the forest walking slowly.

"I know, you can help me make another one." How were we gonna do that? I walked with mom for a long time. It was nice really.

"When I was in high school there was someone I dated before your father....

"Mom I know this story." I reminded her.

"You haven't heard this one I promise." She said looking back at me. "I met a guy name Luke. When we dated I thought he was human. We broke up, some time after he came back to the town where I grew up. At this time I was dating your father. I had found on his secret. Luke started watching me, which made your father worry." I tried not to giggle.

"I take Dad as the protective type." I told mom. When I was beside her she wrapped her arm into mine.

"Your father is protective man.Not just of me but with you as well. Sadly he couldn't do that once he was hurt. Luke tricked me and hurt your father. I cut my arm think my blood would help him heal. Back then, your father was still learning how to turn away from blood. He bite, our blood got exchanged in the process. I started changing right then. I had some sort of power then, a power that I've never been able to unlock since then. I took his soul, which made him weak. I don't remember how. Luke took your father." I looked at my mom.

"What..." I was surprised something like that would happen.

"He took your father in exchange for me. He had been gone for almost two years. Over time I trained with Jasper and Darrick. I became powerful for someone for a newly turned vampire. I spent most of my time learning how use my powers trying to find out where your father was. I killed someone that I thought was my friend. Because your father wouldn't give me up to Luke. Luke decided he would take his body for his own."

"Isn't that against the law. I know some vampires practice it for avoiding trouble. Those who have are killed without trial." To think my parents had to deal with someone like that. My mom stopped.

"This is far enough." She said to me. "Now I'm only showing you because it feel like it was time." My mom closed her eyes. Her short red wavy hair started to flow !down to chest. The gray patch in her hair faded into bright red with the rest her hair. I could see the small wrinkles around her eyes disappearing. When my mom opened her eyes they were a bright blue.

"Is this why you looked like when you were my age?" She only looked about five years old then me.

"Yes. If I didn't let me self age in appearance it would be noticeable." I thought it was odd seeing my father as a teenage. My mother, she was beautiful. She turned and left her right hand slowly. There was a tree no more than a yard away from us. The tree came out the ground from its roots. The tree laid down on its said. Where the tree came out the ground another grew back in its place.

"When I was six. I had planet to take care of for the summer. It died cause I never gave it water. You told me to sing to it, and it would live again. The next day it was alive...." My mom smiled at me.

"You were crying. You didn't want your teacher to be mad at you. So I made the planet live. " My mom showed me the rest of her powers. Each one as amazing as the last. She told me that she didn't use her powers anymore because she was done fighting. There was no reason for to use her powers. Talking to my mom I realized we were more alike than I thought. She fought for all the people she loved. Even though she isn't human anymore, my mom still felt that human part of herself. Maybe that was why I couldn't take Ben's life to save him. Why humans matter so much to me. Why I was so close to Jazz. I love my friends. I would be hurt if I lost one of them. They were the first two people that accepted me for who I was. I had to become stronger. I needed to become stronger. I sat on the back steps looking at the sun set.

"Your mom said you wanted to see us." My dad and Uncle Kevin came outside. Both acting like kids and pushing each other.

"I want to go back to training. Mrs. Powell will come for me. And I have to know how to fight and defend myself. I'm not counting anyone to save me. I need to save myself and Ben." I didn't take my eyes off the sky.

"You're a kid Riley. You should be worried about school and football not..." I stood up and looked at my Dad.

"Dad." I spoke softly to make him listen. "She's coming for me. I may be a kid, but we all have to grow up and fight. I won't let another person fight for me. Think of it as my rebellious teenage starting." I looked at my Uncle.

"Tomorrow. We will pick up where we left off."
