“ COME ON REF I KNOW YOU SAW THAT!!” I could see the vain is Coach’s head about the burst. So far Hamilton High had the lead on us. It didn’t matter if we were good, he wasn’t playing the freshmen. We have had five games so far this year, and hadn’t put us in one game. My gums still hurt just a little, but it wasn’t enough to keep me from showing up to the game.
“We are dying out there.” Ben pulled his jersey over his pads. “If I knew we would be benched, I wouldn’t have bothered trying out.”
“There is a vampire of the field.” Jazz whispered. “I can smell him across the field, but I can’t tell who.” Jazz’s nose was hid in the air. The smell in the air was a familiar one and the other smell wasn’t. “No, it’s two of them.” Jazz was fighting not to growl.
“I know one of them, they aren’t a threat. But the other vampire, I can’t track where they are.” I turned around and looked in the stands. I saw my mother and both my uncles. Dad was sitting next to mom. It looked like he had shifted into his younger form. It was still pretty cool how he could do that. Mom smiled at me, thank god she didn’t wave. I would have died. I looked around the stands.
“Dad, someone else is here. I think it’s that person who killed that woman.” I turned around and pretended I hadn’t noticed. The person might be watching.
“Just relax, your mom is keeping an eye out. Just act normal and get Jasmine to relax. We don’t want her to expose herself in front of all these humans. My father warned me, at that same time I turned to Jazz who was breathing so hard. I picked up her towel and covered her head.
“Jazz relax.” Ben said softly to her.”You can do this. You're a strong girl, so I know you can control when you change. I raised one eyebrow at him but he turned away.
"Alright freshman, take the field." Coach said to us. Now he wanted us to play. Not even sure Jazz could handle all these vampire's in one place. Coach looked at Jazz who breathing hard. Thank god her eyes weren't glowing. "What's with her?"
"Nothing, she's just....." Think Riley, think. "She's just excited." Coach looked at me."Fine, whatever. Show me some of that excitement." I grabbed my helmet and then I realized. I was nervous and this the first game I was playing in me. My heart was beating so fast. I lined up on the field.
"I can smell em, his on field." Jazz said to me. She was still breathing hard, but her eyes weren't glowing anymore. "I can control myself, but I am not sure if I can if they get too close to me." Great, I had worry about the game, Jazz exposing herself, the unknow vampire and the vampire on the field. Good think, my brain could focus on more than one thing at a time.
"Don't go near them, I don't think they are a threat." I locked eyes with number twelve who was looking back at me. He grinned at me. When the ball was snapped I took off running. I found an opening, the ball was in mid-air. It was right there, out the corner of my eye I saw number twelve coming for me. If I move, I would miss the ball. If I stay there I would catch it and get tackled. I could move, but I would end up using to much of my own speed. He was coming fast. I closed my eyes and got tackled to the ground. When I got up he grinned at me as he reached his hand out. I took his hand as he helped me up. I smiled at him and walked over to the team. When I did Coach grabbed me by my helmet.
