Makoto couldn't sleep.

He just couldn't. No matter how much he tossed and turned in his bed, he couldn't get to sleep.

Maybe it was because of what happened today. No, who was he kidding? Of course it was because of what happened today! What did he expect?

Stuck in another killing game, and today was the first trial. The trial to discover Sonia Nevermind's killer, and discover them they did.

To find out that Aoi had killed Sonia was terrible. They had survived so much together, only now to be separated for the last and final time in her execution. It wasn't fair! Wasn't fair, wasn't fair!

With a groan, Makoto sat up, almost giving himself whiplash. He was never going to get any sleep at this rate, his mind kept repeating the day's events over and over again.

Stupid mind. Why did it have to make this so much more difficult?

Don't think about the killing game. Don't think about Sonia. Don't think about Aoi. Just think about- about his life that'll be once this killing game is over! Yeah, that's the perfect distraction!

Makoto smiled as he imagined his soon-to-be life with his fiancé, Kyoko. Komaru would be there too, and Byakuya, and Hiro, and Toko, and Aoi...

Goddammit!

Makoto's smile dropped to an annoyed frown, and he got out of bed, quickly getting dressed and walking out of his room. He needed to take a walk.

As he stood in the hallway, for a moment he considered going to Kyoko's room. She could help with his thoughts, and he would love to cuddle with her again. That might help a lot.

But for whatever reason, Makoto found himself walking past her room. He guessed his mind was telling him to let her sleep, which he probably should. She must be exhausted as well, and it might only annoy her if Makoto were to come in unexpectedly.

His feet carried him all over the Academy, even they seem unsure of where to go. Makoto gave a small grimace at that. If he couldn't trust his own feet, what could he trust?

Makoto was startled out of his thoughts when he walked by the kitchen entrance and heard something from inside. Footsteps, definitely. A whirr of a machine. What in the world?

What should he do? Go inside? But what if someone was preparing a murder? Then he'd be the one to get murdered!

One the other hand, if someone really was preparing a murder, Makoto could run and raise the alarm, and then they could keep a close eye on that person. It was always good to know about stuff like this.

That thought overpowered all his cautionaries, and Makoto carefully opened the door, and stepped inside. His eyes widened in confusion.

"Nikei? What are you doing?"

The albino shrieked as they whirled around, clearly startled. Behind them was a coffee machine, in the middle of brewing up a fresh cup.

"Makoto, you scared me! Don't do that!" Nikei scolded, folding their arms and glaring at Makoto to regain their composure.

"Sorry, my bad." Makoto said sheepishly, walking over. "But what are you doing in the kitchen in the middle of the night, making coffee of all things?"

Nikei shrugged. "Couldn't sleep, so I figured I might as well give myself a reason for getting out of bed. What 'bout you?"
