Hang In There! (Literally!)

As Rui and Tanjirou were cautiously glaring at each other, you couldn't help but start to get into your own head — you felt completely useless.

Why do situations like these always happen, why do your beloved friends always have to pull off the hard work to save you? Was the past three years of training, to become a demon slayer, all for nothing?

Your eyes suddenly hardened with determination. You couldn't just be a 'damsel in distress' — you refused.

You raised your voice, furiously spitting at Rui, "You're calling that a true, family bond?! It's a sham, a fake—! No, it's a forged bond! You put your so called family through so much pain.. so much fear! Don't you hold any sense of remorse!?"

Rui whipped his head towards you, seething angrily, "Shut up. You're going to be my older sister soon, show some respect." Tears pricked your eyes from the immense amount of anger, "No, I won't!"

You took a deep breath, "It sickens me how you think this is a familial bond! You're deranged in the head, because this is nothing like a family! If you truly think I'll join your 'family', and let you live.. then you're a complete moron!"

Tanjirou nodded, adding on, "She's right! You have no entitlement to call this a family! You're not going to make it through the night, because I'll kill you!"

The bushes suddenly rustled in the distance, revealing a demon slayer cockily strolling out, "Oh, perfect timing! There are demons here!" He unsheathed his blade, smirking, "If they're kiddy demons, I'll easily slay them."

He shooed Tanjirou away, "You pull back, okay? I wanna get safely promoted! And if I do, the higher-ups will give me tons of money! Haha!"

He got into a fighting stance, raising his brows, "My squad is pretty much decimated, but I'll defeat a fairly tough demon and descend the mountain with ease!"

You widened your eyes, only to be interrupted by coughs, "NO! DON'T! GET— ngh!" You eyed Tanjirou, 'Tanjirou.. stop him! Please!'

However, it was too late. The boy charged towards Rui, as Tanjirou desperately reached out for him, "NO, STOP!! YOU'RE NOT—!"

Blink and you would have missed it.

The very next second, his once healthy body was minced into pieces, the rest of his corpse falling onto the ground with a thud. Blood rained down from above, splattering everyone in the vicinity, including you.

Your face paled as vomit made its way up your throat at the gory sight, before you leaned to the side and ejected it. You squeezed your eyes shut, 'Oh my god—! He just..!' Veins bulged out of Ruis forehead in anger, "What did you just say to me?!"

Tanjirou raised his voice, "I'll say it over and over again, for the both of us! Your bonds are fake!" Rui outstretched webs between his fingertips, hissing, "Fine, I won't kill you at once. I'm going to mince your corpse after I'm done completely shredding you."

You finally gained the courage to open your eyes back up, whimpering at the minced-up body that laid in front of you. Rui then glimpsed over to you, "You, girl. Once I transform you into my older sister.. you will start learning your lesson."

Rui averted his focus back to Tanjirou, "But, if you take back what you said, I'll kill you in a single quick and painless blow. Your choice." Tanjirou maintained a battle position, furrowing his brows, "I won't! What I said wasn't wrong! The one who's wrong, is you!!" He sprinted towards Rui, dodging the incoming threads.
