As you ran across the train's roof, the wind ruthlessly threatened to throw you off balance. You clenched your jaw, focusing on each and every step you took.
Releasing a heavy, panting exhale, you wiped a sweat drop from your forehead. Straining your eyes, you fought back a gasp at how far ahead Tanjirou was.
'Holy shit! How the hell is he so fast?!'
He was multiple cars ahead—and he didn't show any signs of stopping. Swallowing, you picked up the pace, urgently trying to catch up.
"Rengoku! Zenitsu! Inosuke! Hugh! Sōta! Wake up! Wake up!" Tanjirou panickedly yelled, his voice mostly drowned out by the ravaging winds.
You knew you shouldn't; you knew it was absolutely stupid; yet you couldn't shake the guilty feeling from eating you up entirely.
You should've prevented it all—prevented them from falling asleep. If only you had remembered, all of this wouldn't be going on.
You had a chance to change the upcoming events for the better, and you failed.
You just hoped it wouldn't be the same with saving Rengoku from his inevitable demise.
"Wake up, you bitches!" You screamed, accelerating in speed. "Especially you, Eli! I told you not to fall asleep, you ass!!"
Tanjirou soon slowed to a stop, to which you finally approached him by the side. Panting, you doubled over, placing your palms on your knees.
"When did you— get so goddamn— fast?!" You gasped, spluttering for air.
Tanjirou's panicked gaze snapped to yours. His face was drained of all its color—he was mortified. "What do we do?! Everyone else is asleep! The damn demon merged with the train!"
He sucked in a shaky breath of air.
"At most, we can only handle four carriages! What about all the other passengers?! What do we do?!"
Your heart practically tore in two at Tanjirou's petrification.
'If I remember correctly, Inosuke will wake up soon..'
You gently and reassuringly placed a hand on his shoulder, softly trailing your thumb back and forth. You nodded, cracking a ghost of a smile.
"Tanjirou, take deep breaths. We can do this. Plus, I'm sure everybody else will wake up soon—"
"FOLLOW ME, MY MINIONS! HAHAHA!" Inosuke interrupted, crashing through the train's roof.
"Inosuke, you're awake!" Tanjirou relievedly called out, his once tense muscles loosening.
"Hell yeah, Inosuke! Took you long enough!" You added, smiling despite not being surprised.
"PIG ASSAULT, PIG ASSAULT! FOLLOW THE WAY OF KING INSOUKE!!" Inosuke replied, unsheathing his dual jagged blades.
"Inosuke! The train is no longer safe! Protect those who are sleeping, 'kay?!" Tanjirou shouted, ignoring Inosuke's orders entirely.
