A burning and tingling feeling ran through my stomach and up my neck. Oh God No! I run to my bathroom and clear the burning from my body and the already empty contents of my stomach. I lift my shirt up and glance at the small bump that’s already formed. Serious? It’s only been a two and a half months. Pulling out each drawer and emptying the substances, I finally find a pregnancy test box and pull a stick out and do what is needed… I check the monitor and sigh at the non-existent noise coming from it, indicating that Cayden is thankfully asleep, or kidnapped. My phone timer rings and I look down at the stick, fuck! Tears slowly fall from my eyes, I can’t do this again.
Nate had made sure to Skype me and Cayden each week, to make sure that we were okay, and that Cayden couldn’t forget him. But each time Nate called he got the same reaction from Cayden. Smile, cry, run away and as Nate continued to call I came to notice that when Cay ran away he would repeatedly mutter ‘lie, lie, lie’, I wonder if that’s what his dream is about. Mind you I still hadn’t told Nate about the baby yet. I didn’t know how to. I had a baby bump now, four months along, and Cayden had found a new nickname for me, tubby. I have told Cayden that he is going to have a baby brother or a baby sister, and he seems pretty excited, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
“TUBBY!” Cayden shouts from his room. I slowly walk towards his room, wondering what he wants now. I peep my head through the door and smile at my little man as he sits in his cot and smiles at me, expectantly. We walk downstairs hand in hand and he runs into his playroom, throwing his toys around carelessly. Leaving the monitor in the playroom I make my way upstairs and quickly change into a pair of genie pants and a tight black singlet, exposing my baby bump and making me smile happily, but quickly throw on a Skate rose hoodie, slightly covering the small bump. I was now at the happy stage of the pregnancy, well today anyway. The doorbell rang and Cayden immediately starts making the noises of a police car as loud as he can in substitute for the doorbell, just in case I didn’t notice. I pull my blue hair into a high ponytail as I make my way downstairs and to Cayden. I place him on my hip and go to the door as they ring the bell again
“Coming” I call as I reach a couple of metres away. I unlock the door and jump when I see who it is
“Baby, wanna go to the playroom?” he nods and jumps down from my arms, quickly running away. “Hey” I fake a smile and give him a light hug. “Come in” I step to the side and as he walks in I notice that he has a suitcase with him “Wait aren’t you supposed to be on tour?”
“Nope. I quit so that I could be with my family” I nod, slightly confused.
“Um… so do you want to stay here? I mean with us or do you have something else planned?” I ask suddenly nervous
“I was hoping I could stay here if that’s alright. I mean I have my own apartment but I wanted to stay with my baby girl” I smile and nod that’s convincing right? I take his stuff upstairs and put it in my room, before going down to check on Cayden
“Wait here? Please” I beg Nate. He nods sadly and I walk into the playroom and talk to Cayden “You need to talk to Pa Cay. Please? Can you do that for mummy?” I beg, using the puppy eyes and anything I can to make him say yes. He nods his little head and takes hold of my hand reluctantly. I open the door and Cayden clings to the back of my leg as he sees Nate
“Hey little man” Nate says softly as he holds his arms out for a hug. Cayden lets out a soft chuckle and runs into Nate’s arms giving him a big hug, instantly forgetting his terror and hate.
“You two play nice. Mummy’s going to have a nap” I give them both a kiss on the forehead and make my way upstairs. I slip off my clothes and throw them into the laundry hamper, pulling a Skate tshirt on, and laughing as it hangs past my thighs, tightening around my baby belly. I pull my sheets and quilt back and slide into the comfort of my squishy bed.
“TUBBY!” Cayden screams into my ear, jolting me from my (what was peaceful) sleep.
“Yeah baby?” I ask rubbing my sleepy eyes as I push myself up against the headboard
“Pa gave me a cuddle” he wraps his arms around himself, as he rocks himself making me laugh but slightly annoyed, I mean I could be sleeping right now but I guess not
“That’s good isn’t it?” I ask smiling. He nods enthusiastically and cuddles into my side as he mumbles to my belly
“Whatcha doing Cay?” Nate asks as he stands in the doorway
“Tubby tummy tubby tummy tubby tummy” Cayden sings as he rolls around
“Cayden that’s rude” Nate defends, not understanding, well everything
“No! Babies!” Cayden clarifies
“Cayden! No shouting” I demand
“Sorry tubby” he answers as he hangs his head “Talk to tubby?” Cayden asks. I laugh at his expression and nod. Instantly bursting into laughter as he kisses my sensitive stomach.
“What’s he doing?” Nate asks as Cayden begins to talk to my tummy in baby mumble
“I’ll explain later” I look down at Cay smiling happily at his stupid little self “What time is it?” I ask Nate, wondering how long until Cayden needs his nap
“About quarter past 12” he answers looking at his watch.
“Someone’s late for their nap, mister” Cayden looks up at me and laughs lightly as he crawls into my arms “Come on let’s get your bottle then”
I hold Cayden on my hip as his bottle heats up and pull it out of the microwave the minute that it beeps. I carry both Cayden and his bottle upstairs and sit in the chair in his room as I play Alice in Wonderland as he drinks his bottle. Fifteen minutes later, soft snuffles come from Cayden and I realise that he is finally asleep. Cautious of each move I make, I carefully place him in his crib and leave Alice in Wonderland playing in the background. Still slightly sleepy, I rub my eyes and walk to my room before plonking onto my bed
“Tired?” Nate asks laughing
“You try having a two year old everyday” I retort
“I’d like to” my head snaps up and I turn to face him “I mean I want to be with my son and Lil Mamma” he smirks as I shake my head at his nickname
“Weirdo”
“What’s with Cayden before?” He asks smiling, the cocky bastard already knows
“Well, he has this thing where he talks to peoples stomachs” I lie cheekily smiling at him, knowing that he probably already knows
“Takes after you I suppose” he answers laughing causing me to break down in peals of laughter
“But you mister need to understand the use of protection” or commitment, I think to myself. He laughs a little and comes to lay behind me, wrapping his strong arms around my fat gut.
“How far along Lil Mamma?” he asks rubbing circles on my tummy
“I think maybe four months or something, I don’t really know. But it’s weird cause Cayden was tiny, didn’t show til I was about five or six months I think” I remember, slightly telling myself “I have to ask Nash I think he has the pictures on his phone or camera or something.” Nate rolls his eyes and scoffs and I nudge his shoulder “Be nice”
“I don’t like him” He whispers
“Too bad” he looks at me and I stick my tongue out at him and laugh “I’m tired” I whine as I cuddle into him
“Go to sleep baby” he kisses my forehead and pulls me closer into his side.
