Uenoyama's POV (His Calm self and Nervous self in action)

OK.

Shit.

Mafuyu's birthday is coming up.

What should I gift him?

What about clothes?

Are you mad? What if they don't fit?

Daily-used products? Trinkets?

What?! He wouldn't even know what they are!

In short, Uenoyama was a nervous wreck. Although calm and composed on the outside, he was a raging sea of emotions on the inside. He had been searching for the perfect gift for a week now. And hadn't found one yet.

The poor boy had asked his other band members- Akihiko and Haruki- for help. But they had tossed him out and locked their door giving a useless piece of advice. 'Get a grip and be a man!'

Even his own sister had closed all doors and let him suffer. Right now, his anxiety shot up when he realised that Mafuyu's birthday was tomorrow.

His last resort was his friends Ryou and Shoga.

'Hey, I was wondering what to give Sato tomorrow,' he mumbled during lunch break that day. He was too nervous to go to his corner staircase -not because he was scared to be alone rather he was scared to be alone with Mafuyu.

'Ehh...Get a scarf maybe. What about a guitar strap? The one he owns now is basically in tatters,' Ryou said thoughtfully. 'Oh well figure something out let's go play basketball!'

And thus Uenoyama was dragged to the court. It was a good distraction for him and he forgot about his troubles momentarily. Not only did he forget his situation, but he also forgot that Mafuyu was waiting for him. He did not realise that the redhead was looking at him from the sidelines before he returned to his classroom without a word.

Mafuyu left school early so he could practice with Akihiko. Haruki was busy with work so band practise was called off. That leaves our pathetic protagonist in front of a gift shop near the station. He looked through the items and was thoroughly confused about what to buy for his boyfriend.

He picked up a cute looking pencil, a weird looking plushy and a mug.

When he took the gifts he had chosen to the old lady on the counter, he realised that the gifts didn't suit Mafuyu at all. He would probably lose his pencil somewhere, break his mug accidentally and his dog might as well use the plushy as a chew toy!

Maybe I should go back...

'I bet that's for someone important.'

Uenoyama looked up to see the old lady smiling at him. His face turned red and he really wanted to run away. Instead, he said, 'Yes.'

The elder chuckled. 'Well, that's crystal clear from looking at your face.'

WHATTTTTT. AM I THAT EASY TO READ?!

Uenoyama nodded curtly. 'Do you have any suggestions oba-san?'

She leaned back on her chair giving much thought. 'So tell me. What sort of a girlfriend do you have?'

Uenoyama froze. 'Um...It's for my boyfriend...' he choked out.

The old lady's smile grew big. 'Shouldn't you have told this earlier?'

In the end, Uenoyama left the shop with a brown leather-bound notebook for Mafuyu to write his songs in and a matching keychain for them both. 'Is this enough?' he had asked the woman doubtfully.
