It was another ordinary day in the Puqi Shrine. No complaints of ghosts and evil beings and no troubles in people's household. With nothing else to do, Xie Lian took it upon himself to sweep the front yard of his shrine. He took his time to clean every corner, whistling an old song from Xianle. It was about two lovers who met under the moon, both completely different from the other. But their love for each other was far stronger than the notes of destiny, for they stayed together beyond forever.
Xie Lian was not a man well versed in romance, he never cared for such love and didn't find the need to indulge in such filial activities. That was until he met his beloved San Lang. He couldn't help but daydream about him and his San Lang meeting under the moon like the two long lost lovers from the song. If he actually thought about, Xie Lian and Hua Cheng had actually met under the moon back in Mount Yujun. Xie Lian sighed. Hua Cheng was driving him nuts these days.
Soon enough, dust and dried leaves were piled up, clothes were washed and dried and the evening sun painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, for it was dusk. It was then that Xie Lian realized that the Puqi Shrine had quite a beautiful view overlooking the valley. And it struck him. Grinning, he went back in, and prepared a little surprise for his husband.
Xie Lian waited patiently, and as the sun disappeared he felt a pair of arms encircling his waist. 'Gege I missed you,' Hua Cheng mumbled into Xie Lian neck. 'This lowly one had to spend extra time away to deal with those useless bastards.' Xie Lian patted his head and kissed his raven hair. 'Well then Gege has a little surprise for you.'
'You do?'
Xie Lian couldn't help but blush at his husbands antics. 'En.' Sometimes he wondered whether his San Lang was indeed the fearsome Ghost King everyone was scared of.
Xie Lian dragged Hua Cheng outside. It was a full moon night, with the sky peppered with stars. He pulled Hua Cheng to the little picnic he had set up earlier and pulled him to the ground. Hua Cheng nuzzled into the nook of his Gege's neck, rubbing against him like a little kitten.
Xie Lian loved those tender cuddle sessions they had. His San Lang was so cute and tender, unlike the other improper times when Hua Cheng was a complete beast. Xie Lian rubbed San Lang's back and covered his head with tender kisses. He couldn't be much happier when San Lang gave him a kiss filled with love and devotion. But today it was Xie Lian's turn to spoil his husband. He pushed his husband away and pulled a blanket over them.
The moon gleamed in its full glory, witnessing the two lovers snuggling together. Xie Lian pulled his beloved to his chest and gave him a chaste kiss on his forehead before starting to sing the old song from Xianle.
Waiting for the next wind, the night grows old
Waiting for the light of dawn to reveal this city's story
Over and over, falling into the mortal worldOver and over, the people grow wearyYet who is waiting there with that stubborn gaze?
As the tea cools with the night, rain falls on a red umbrella
Let me renew my sincere faith once moreLook back on that old city with regret, old friends nowhere in sightDrifting along as years pass, just as beforeAsk not who is there, protecting this lifetime
Flower and sword leave no traces; a lantern, bright, hangs high
Silver butterflies decorate old dreams; care no more for life and deathYou have always followed my footsteps, through the countless echoes of this worldAnd I carry on in silent acceptance, unafraid of falling
A dying lantern flickers, unsettled, as memories climb to the surface
In the late evening breeze, a red-clad figure catches the eyeA gift rarely given, you offer me your unrestrained company on this life's journey
Worries immeasurable; woes fill the heart
Yet to break this sincerity, an entire city of stars is not enoughNo matter who ascends to the heavens, or battles with unknown demons and godsMuddled truth and lies sharpen the blade's edge, cutting deep
Flower and sword leave no traces; a lantern, bright, hangs high
Silver butterflies decorate old dreams; care no more for life and death
You have always followed my footsteps, through the countless echoes of this world
And I carry on in silent acceptance, unafraid of falling
Xie Lian didn't notice the wetness on his chest until he finished singing. His chest tightened and he cried out. 'Sang Lang! My love, what's wrong? Is my singing that bad?'
Hua Cheng shook his head, still buried in his God's chest, the safest place in the world. 'I'll never leave you Gege. I'll always be here for you. I love you.'
Xie Lian smiled and wiped away his husband's tears. 'I'll always be waiting my love. Forever more.'
He nudged his King to look up. 'My San Lang. The moon is lovely isn't it?'
'En.'
