"Beomgyu open the door." His dad spoke quietly but in a stern voice trying to get his kid to unlock the door. "Go away." He mumbled from under his blanket being overly dramatic of the situation. "Come on, I'm not mad but let me in." There was a moment of silence and his dad stopped shaking the handle. He let out a sigh then got up to unlock it slowly letting it creek open to let his dad into the darkness of his room. "Oh god why is it so dark?" He nagged turning the light on to see nothing but trash covering his whole floor. "Okay never mind that." He just turned the lights back off and chose to ignore it.
He sat down on the bed where Beomgyu was already laying once again with his face in the pillow. "What's wrong kiddo? You were doing so well for awhile and now I can't get you to answer me, or get out, and I got several calls from the school saying you have been absent this whole week." Beomgyu groaned not wanting to talk about it. It made him feel so awkward and uncomfortable.
Plus he knew he was being dramatic but it sucked being friend zoned by Yeonjun. He felt like he just got his heart broken.
"Is it about your mom?" His dad asked making the boy roll over. Actually this time his mood swings wasn't because of her. Yes he will admit he's been shaken up from her drinking in the past but he honestly really didn't care about it at this point. He didn't want to tell his dad about it being what Yeonjun said because he thought it was embarrassing and wouldn't be a good enough excuse to miss school over. To him it was but he knew his dad wouldn't by it. So there for he just agreed and went along with it.
"Yeah, I just miss her. I've been thinking about her a lot this week." His dad frowned and put his head down. Shit, maybe he shouldn't have said that. He knew how broken up it made his dad. Oh well he can't take it back now.
"I know. I miss her too. But you know we still get to call her to check in, and it won't be long before she gets to come home. That's why we gotta make sure our house stays clean and you get your school done to make her proud." He tried to lighten the mood but it didn't work. Make her proud? Tsk, yeah right. As if he cared about that. All she ever did was nag about him. Plus why should he care about what a dead beat jobless drunk thinks. Maybe that's to far, she was still his mom after all. He was just so frustrated with it all. It was always like this, since he was in middle school. She would drink and drink until it nearly killed her. Then she would be sent away for months at a time. When she would came home she would stay sober for at most a week or two then find an excuse to go right back to the bottle.
Honestly, he still didn't even know why she started in the first place. The only thing he can remember from the past was his red tricycle bike and nothing more. As days went on that also started to become a distant faded memory.
He didn't understand why his dad put up with it. It was destroying their family both emotionally and finically. Why wouldn't he just leave her? They could run away and start a new life in some remote town.
Oh well, he knew that wasn't possible. He asked once and his dad claimed that when you really love someone you don't just abandon them. That you should try and understand so that way you can be there to support them. And in the end all you can give is love. It was clear his dad really loved her. He wish he could say the same but oh well maybe he should stop thinking about it for now. If not he might just cry in front of his dad which would make the already awkward situation so much worse.
His dad sighed and got up. "Will you please try and go to school for me Monday? If not I'm gonna end up having to pay a lot of money." It was clear his dad was giving up and so out of guilt Beomgyu agreed. "Alright." He got a smile from his dad but he knew he was still sad. "Thanks kiddo. Also I hope you don't mind but I invited Soobin over, I figured it would be good to have a friend visit." He said leaving the room so the boy could come in.
