Chapter 9

I woke up the next morning went into the bathroom and got dressed. I put o. Some ripped shorts and an over sized shirt that had a surf board on it. When I came out of the bathroom John B was up.
"Morning" I say to him.
"Good morning" he says back.
I folded up the bed and transformed it back into a couch then sat down.
"Pope is going to come over in a few so it will be easier. But we need to pick up Kie and JJ."
He signed.

"Well I can go pick up JJ if you send me his address." I offered him.
"Really? Thanks I'll send it to you" he looked at his phone and then put it away. Just then my phone dinged and saw that he had sent me the address.

"I can go pick him up now so I don't have to later and we can all ride together." I put my phone in my back pocket.
"Good idea Pope should be here by the time you get back." He says.

Later when I was In the car I looked at the directions and saw that I saw almost there, so I decided the text JJ and say I was almost there.
"Hey JJ I'm 5 minutes away" I sent the message and waited.

When the message read "Delivered" he never read it. I started to get worried but then again he could be busy. A couple of minutes later I had arrived in front of his house. I checked my phone to see if he answered back, but there was still no reply. I texted him that I was here and got out of the car.

When I got to the porch I nocked on the door.
I waited a bit then heard foot steps coming toward the door. When the door opened I saw a man there. He was older and had a cut on his lip. He leans on arm up against the door frame and looked at me up and down.

"Can I help you girl?" The man said, his voice a bit cracks and deep.
"Hi I'm looking for JJ?" I smiled nervously.
"Mhm" He once again looked at me up and down.
"JJ! Get over here!" He looked behind him.

We waited there for a couple of seconds and in those seconds the man wouldn't stop staring at me.
"Ok can I help YOU with something or are just going to stare at me a little longer?!" I crossed my arms.
"Well aren't you feisty" He leans forward a bit,
"I like that." He smirked.

Right then I stood up straight and slapped the man.
"Try not to hit on me next time. It won't end so well." I said to him in anger.
Just then someone came around the corner,
"What is it dad?" It was JJ. In that moment I had realized who the man was. Why haven't I thought before. It was JJ's dad! Like

JJ looked at me then at his father who's face was red. He came speeding past his dad and pulled me behind him.
"Your little girlfriend is strong" Luke said laughing a bit.
"Leave her alone dad. Don't look or talk to her alright." JJ said while holding my hand defensively.
"You better remember who your talking to boy now het inside." Luke said.

JJ turned around and pulled me to the car. When we got in he was in the drivers seat and started driving away.
"JJ-" I tried to speak
"Why did you do that?" He asked cutting me off.
"What do you mean?"
"He could have hurt you and you slapped him Lily!" He started to yell.
He looked at me then back at the road. In that quick glimpse I saw a bruise on his face.
"Holly shit JJ your face! Did he do that to you?" I reached for his arm.
"N-No Lily I tripped ok" he pushed my hand away.
"Don't think that I would expect that you just tripped when you just said he would've hurt me ok, so tell me the truth" I demanded.
"Listen either believe what I just told you arm believe that I'm lying because I couldn't really care less!" I jumped a bit when he yelled at me.

The rest of the car ride back to John B's was completely quiet. Neither of us said a word. JJ didn't look at me for all I know but I would glance over to him. Every glance was me trying to start a conversation but I couldn't find the right words.

A couple of minutes past and there was still silence. Until JJ spoke,
"Listen I'm sorry for bursting out like that. It's just-"
"Something's you want to keep private from other people." I cut him off.
"Exactly and I know you were just trying to do something nice, but how about next time you just call me and I come to you?" He wanted to make a solution for what happened.
"I think that would be a great plan" I smiled at him.

The rest of the car right we told some jokes and I told him about what it was like back were I lived.
"Hey are your parents going to come down here anytime soon?" He asked
"Um, I don't know" I said nervously
"What do you mean?" He asked
"Well this hole thing of me coming back to the outer banks was a big surprise for my birthday." I was telling the truth then it was a surprise, I just didn't mention the rest of it.
