Nick was in the library studying for his up coming History test when his best friend since childhood Rachel Berry and his boyfriend of two years Jeff came by and sat with him wanting to tell him something really important in which Rachel hopes Nick won't be upset with her about.
He flipped through the pages of his History textbook while taking notes as he heard
"Nicky. Rachie has to tell you something, and it's important and she hopes you won't be upset at." Nick looked up from text book, put his pen down on his notebook, to face Jeff and Rachel, when he glanced over at Rachel's and said
"What is it Rachie. As your best friend since childhood you can tell me anything and I won't ever judge you at all, even you know that." Rachel knew Nick was right, and knew that Nick wouldn't judge but with what she needs to tell him, she's worried that he would be upset, especially since she is dating a warbler and his and Jeff's friend, something she knew Nick wouldn't really approve of. She took a deep breath and said
"I'm dating someone from Dalton. And he's yours and Jeffy's friend." Nick closed his book, placed it on the table as he spoke cautiously
"Who is it?" Rachel nervously spoke
"Sebastian. Sebastian Smythe." Nick didn't know what to say. But he also knew he had to speak with Sebastian.
Nick didn't speak a word to them, all he did was stand up, and walk out of the library to find Sebastian.
Nick is very protective of Rachel and does not want to see her get hurt once again. Nick knew that one day Rachel would set her sights on a warbler, Nick just didn't know which one, and to now know it was Sebastian Smythe, Nick knew he had to talk to Sebastian, and give him the if he hurt Rachel, Sebastian has Nick to answer to talk.
Nick didn't want to have to give that talk to him but he knew that he had to because Rachel is his best friend first. Rachel was the first person Nick came out as gay and transgender too. Rachel was the only one to know him as Nicole before he came out as Nicholas.
When he couldn't find his friend in his dorm, Nick went straight to the warbler room, and found Sebastian sitting on the sofa writing in a notebook. Nick walked over and sat across from him.
"You and I need to talk Smythe." Sebastian looked up from his lyric book where he was writing a song about Rachel and said
"What about Duvall?" Nick took a deep breath and said
"About you and Rachel." Sebastian quickly closed his notebook and said
"Oh. I take it you know about her and I? I promise I won't hurt her." Nick shook his head and said
"I appreciate your word for it, but that's not why I'm here. yes I don't want you to hurt her. but you may be my friend but she's also my best friend first and always will be ever since child hood." Sebastian nodded his head and said
"Understood." Nick looked at him and said
"For you and Rachel, I'm setting some ground rules. so listen and I'm only saying this once, so don't interrupt me at all." Sebastian nodded his head as Nick continued
"I'm the gay best friend of your girlfriend. If you and I are going to continue being friends, here are some things you need to know about me." Sebastian stayed silent as he listened to Nick
"Number one, relax. I'm not into you, if I was, I wouldn't give you the satisfaction in telling you. I would probably do what straight boys and wait around until you're single and then emotionally strike." Sebastian wrote down what Nick was saying at the back of his book
"Number two, I'm a hugger. and if we're going to hang out more I'll hug you and I'm not talking about the side hug thing either, I'm talking full chest to chest, full arm around each other hugging." Nick looked more serious at Sebastian and said
"Number three, if you abuse Rachel, I will end you. My wrist may look fragile to you. But I will fight to the death for Rachel unless she has a bachelorette party at a gay bar." Sebastian saw Nick's seriousness in face and heard it in the tone of his voice. and Nick then said
"Number four. I need you to help me fix my car. It's making weird noises. and I don't have a good enough relationship with my father to ask him for help." Sebastian looked at Nick and said softly
"Of course I'll help you Nick." Nick stood up with Sebastian and hugged him
"Thank you. I like you dating Rachel. don't hurt her." Sebastian gave a small smile and said
"I don't plan on ever hurting her. She has my warbler ring Nick. she has it as a promise ring letting her know that I'm serious about her, that I won't hurt her and i won't ever treat her like Finn did." Nick gave a smile back to him and said
"I'm glad." They pulled apart the hug and Nick walked away from Sebastian where Rachel walked in to greet him. Nick knew that one day he would stand as Rachel's man of honour, and also knew that one day he would have to tell Sebastian his secret about being transgender and being born a girl named Nicole and it being the reason why he and his dad don't have a good relationship, Nick knew Sebastian and Jeff both need to know, but Nick also knew that he wasn't ready for his friend and his boyfriend to know yet, only Rachel knew everything, and Nick was okay with that.
