You probably had never felt such physical pain before. The throbbing of your head at that moment felt unbearable, as if someone was hitting your brain inside your skull. Stars were chasing each other behind your closed eyelids as you were trying to figure out what that echo in your ears was. It kept repeating the same word, but you were too soggy to understand it...
You flinched when you felt the arm behind your back and hand on your face. You just wanted to rest and wait until your headache finally passed...
But why where you even in pain in the first place? All you remembered was a blue light, still tainting your pupils slightly in your mind. You remembered it was shiny and sharp, but you couldn't just grasp what was it.
God, you just wished the pain was gone...
You slowly opened your eyes - feeling like your eyelids were heavier than iron - and the first thing you saw was Ekko's face. You would have been happy if he didn't seem so worried. Why was he worried?
You furrowed your brows as your mind tried to dig past the pain, to be able to finally remember how you got to the ground...
And then it finally came to you... you sat up right away, but the movement was too sudden and you became nauseous immediately as the world blurred in front of your eyes. You hit your head when Ekko pushed you away and now you probably had a nice little concussion.
You remembered seeing him getting hit by the shockwaves but he seemed completely healthy...
"Look at me, it's okay..." Ekko said but your eyes kept searching for the evidences of the explosion, mainly on him in the first place.
"What...?" You wanted to ask what happened but the boy gently stopped you.
"Everything's fine..." he tried to calm you down. He seemed too okay for the situation...
"There was an explosion!" You wanted to stand up but he pushed you back so you looked around the room still on the ground - which was in perfect condition. You became more and more confused with each passing second. You were sure there was an explosion...
"Stay down, you're gonna fall if you stand up." He said, holding you down by your shoulders. His eyes were glowing almost... happily? You could see a taint of worry twinkling in his gaze as he searched your face, but he was just unnaturally calm.
"What happened? Is everyone okay?" You looked at him, desperately waiting for answers and he finally started talking.
"Everything is perfectly fine!" He said, still holding you by your shoulders. "But you won't believe what just happened... I know because this is the third time we are going through this conversation and you didn't believe me the first two occasions either..."
"Wait! Ekko..." you interrupted him. The things he said just helped your confusion to grow." Are you all right?" Maybe, he had hit his head as well...
"I'm perfectly fine!" He laughed. "When the crystals exploded something strange but... pretty amazing happened! The crystals somehow - they made up this vortex - of... of dust! An anomaly... Right in the middle of this room! And... and then there was more of me! Several of me, actually, and they were all just as panicked as me." He chuckled a little, with his eyes opened big, trying to gather his thoughts. "And we all started working together and managed to stabilize the crystal and - and fix the tear the explosion caused on... well, the air... I really don't know how to put it into words." Your brows were now almost touching each other as you looked at the boy, becoming even more confused with each word that left his lips. "Me and my... echoes managed to harness the whole thing into one single device. A working device! It was incredible..." he brushed through his hair with his fingers and you were seriously starting to worry about him...
He probably had hit his head as well and something happened to his brain. You wanted to reach out to grab his temples to try and heal him but, as if he had known what you were thinking, he grabbed both of your wrists and gently pushed your arms down.
"You don't have to heal anything on me." He smiled. "I'm perfectly fine. I have proof I'm not crazy. Look at this." He said and pulled the very same container out from behind his back in which he wanted to take that one gemstone to Piltover. "I know it all sounds unbelievable. But I can prove everything I told you is true! I asked you the last time to tell me something that I - or anyone among the firelights - surely can't know about you and you told me you got your powers after you grandfather!" He said excitedly and your eyes grew double their sizes under your raised eyebrows. Your lips slightly parted in your surprise.
"How do you..." you wanted to ask but he interrupted you once again.
"I told you! You were the one who told me!" He chuckled happily and then suddenly pulled you into an excited kiss. You felt he was smiling as he longingly sucked in your lower lip. When he let go of you, he leaned his forehead against yours. "This is the third time I kiss you..." he said happily.
"Okay, first of all... I want to remember when you kiss me!" You said indignantly. "And the second thing is just... just wow..." you looked at the container in which the dust particles, that had remained of the gemstone shards, peacefully flowed around in the middle of the glass, glowing slightly. They seemed to gather into a shape that reminded you of an hourglass in their orbit. "It's just a lot... to take in..." you said, still confused.
You tried to believe his words, but everything he said was just way too surreal.
"I think these crystals somehow reacted to the watch you left next to them..." Ekko said. "And that is why it can... it can rewind time! I can literally time travel!" He said so happily. You watched him with the same amount of confusion as before.
Everything he said sounded so unbelievable but how else would he have known about your grandfather? Your brother was the only living person who knew this other than you, but without your help, he probably still couldn't talk. And you doubted Ekko just visited him to have a pleasant chat about your family over a cup of tea while you were unconscious...
"This thing right here..." he pointed towards his device happily. "It will change everything..." he looked at his own invention and even in his eyes you could see he hardly was able to believe what he held between his fingers...
//A/N.: Guuys, I made a thing:
(I haven't been able to get this meme out of my head for days now.)
Pluus, I know this chapter seemed trippy but this is literally how Ekko invents his timewinder device in the game's lore and I didn't want to change it that much. I mean, without the reader (and the watch) ofc, but he really has his parallels (called echoes) to help him and he really tears the fabric of reality and all. //
