"What the hell was that, huh?" Ekko asked. You could see his frustration on the deepness of the puckers around his nose. The two of you were sitting on his bed now, the tiny, oil lamp on the boy's desk being the only light source in the small room, fighting the darkness outside. Even the firelights living in the tree's crown seemed to be less active today than usually - maybe because it was also warmer than usually.

Ekko had already thrown his jacket to the chair next to his desk, along with his scarf and you made him take off his tank top as well - to be able to see his injuries better.

"I don't know..." you replied as your hands gently folded around the roundness of his shoulder to heal the disjointed limb before dealing with his cuts and bruises too. "I've never seen anything like that before. I mean, my brother's quite unusual as well, so..." you shrugged as your mind wandered back to the wolf-like creature. It disappeared completely, but to be honest, you didn't even stay around the black lanes much more to investigate it. You and Scar grabbed your brother quickly, while he was still unconscious, and headed back to the base as soon as possible after tying him up as well, just to make sure.

Neo was still knocked out - at least he was a few minutes ago - and in his new 'room' now. Which both calmed you and made you nervous at the same time.

"I was talking about you..." Ekko said and you froze. You were kind of expecting him to call you out on your stupid decisions and he had all the rights to do so. And yet, your stomach still turned uncomfortably as you looked into the brown eyes of the boy by your side. "If there are at least two of us telling you that an idea is stupid, you have to believe it!" he was angry, you could hear that. But he also tried to restrain himself.

"I know..." you said under your nose, looking away from him. "I'm sorry... I just... I thought it was my brother who ripped those men apart, and I couldn't have bared the thought of him committing any more of those murders..." you sighed. "I just... You know, I have known about him for long weeks now and I have done close to nothing to help him." you looked at the young firelight again. You saw a mixture of fury and empathy twinkling in his eyes as he looked down at you from his height.

"I'm sorry for not listening to you and getting you and Scar in danger... It won't happen again." you sighed and returned to healing his shoulder. You heard the uncomfortable noise of the two joints sliding over each other slowly as your powers worked, but Ekko didn't even flinch. You saw him buried under his thoughts, contemplating whether to say what was on his mind or not.

He stayed silent for a few more seconds, but when you reached for his face to pay attention to his wounds there, he couldn't hold it back anymore. "You have no idea how many times I had to watch you being ripped apart..." he sighed tiredly and you furrowed your brows. "You're only lucky because I had the Z-drive with me." He pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger to massage it, along with his eyes, as if he wanted to erase the pictures from his mind.

You had the feeling he had to reverse a few times after some 'accidents', but hearing him talk about seeing you die - you felt a shiver run along your spine. It was just so surreal...

"Well, it's a good thing you had it with you then..." you chuckled nervously but the puckers around Ekko's nose grew deeper. You laughing at the situation was probably not the reaction he wanted at that moment.

"I also had it with myself when Ajuna died!" He said and you could hear the annoyed anger in his tone. But he was right... You should have listened to them. If not for your own sake than for theirs at least.

"It won't happen again." You repeated yourself, gently cupping his face to finish healing his wounds. You were serious when you said that - though you also knew, that your impulsive decision making was something you couldn't really help...
