"Evening, sir" Was David's reply as he moved back to the storage area where his apron/uniform was
"Don't 'good evening, sir' me," Was the response as he followed David to see if his uniform was properly worn and that he looked presentable
It made no sense it was just a fucking apron that pissed David off since it was a size too small for him and had a completely different name tag. So unless people knew his face, he was just called Jacob while here at work.
"You didn't shave this morning?" His manager says in a sort of accusatory voice
David did shave though and quite well to the point that his jawline could cut steel but nothing was ever good enough when it came to his work ethic or what he did so he just nodded his head at the accusation of trivial things.
"Well, half the city knows your ugly mug, so no one will care if you look like a homeless bum," The manager says before he skulks off somewhere to find David something to do
David's manager would only stay an hour after David's shift started so that he could account for him being here and doing his job and show up once again once he turned it over to the guy who worked during the day.
David hated this job the most since it was one of those jobs where he was not paid all he was promised, but what could he do? He had no one to turn to or anyone that would help him, so all he could do is either put up with the job or get another one.
Finding a new job was harder than finding gold so David just resigned himself to his fate of having this crappy convenience store job. The convenience store was located near the downtown area of the city at the corner of the street with a small parking lot which meant there would be plenty of foot traffic at most times of the day on the weekends, but David never picked those shifts since he needed the sleep and didn't want to deal with people any more than he had to.
Eventually after finding something for David to do his manager leaves to go home for a good night's rest while he was stuck here to ring up items for the occasional customer that showed up in the middle of the night.
The hours slowly tick by with David working on the items that he was asked to do by his manager before ten in the evening hit, and he was already getting bored. Sleepy and tired about working at the construction site began to hit him hard however he combated it by walking around the store and a bit outside when there was no one inside.
It worked, and before he knew it, it was midnight and business was practically dead as of now. Sure there might be some guy who scored himself a chick and decided to avoid a bundle of joy by buying himself a few condoms before taking his partner to some cheap ass hotel.
It has happened on occasion which made things a bit more interesting since most of the time the partner happened to be stoned, drunk, or both. Still, he would not stick his nose into someone else's business unless someone was going to get hurt or worse.
Grabbing his first soda for the night, David chugs it all down and waits for the buzz of caffeine and sugar to kick in so that it would keep him awake. Feeling nothing though, David takes the last remaining water bottle from the construction site break room and, from within his apron, pulls out a toothbrush and toothpaste.
Davis knew that drinking so much soda would destroy his teeth which is why after every drink he would brush his teeth which is how his teeth have yet to be decimated by the intake of soda.
Grumble!
David's stomach was conveying his sense of hunger to, him which he felt all too well unfortunately since he barely eats. Not having anything to eat for a whole day was the norm since he was trying to save as much money as possible for the monthly payment to the city and his bills. All the rest was saved together so that David could spend it on something he desperately needed, essentially, it was his emergency fund.
