David Mackamore lived in the city of Northpass, a well-known bustling town throughout the region. Still, the primary reason was the types of Pokémon that lived within the surrounding areas. To the north were the mountains, east and westward were the plains, and to the direct south was the great forest with all sorts of Pokémon in each area.

To the east, if one went far enough, they would eventually reach the ocean. However, that was still about two to three days on foot and a day by transportation. However, plenty of freshwater rivers and a few decently sized lakes along the way housed various water-type Pokémon.

The common stereotype is that Pokémon would stay specific to their region, with slight variations between Pokémon in the same region and those in completely different environments.

That rule, however, seemed not to exist here, as there were all sorts of variations to the Pokémon that lived in the surrounding areas of the city.

No one knows how or why these Pokémon variations appear here, but it has become the norm, and people have long since stopped questioning it.

Now then, our story does not begin in the city of Northpass but in an area outside the main town to the south in the great forest, as it was called.

A few minutes' walk would lead to a house in a decently sized clearing within this forest of great trees.

The house was surrounded by a white picket fence, with a stone walkway leading up to the front porch.

This house was a two-story building that, from the outside, looked like a lovely family home in the forest, a great way to get away from society for just a moment on a secluded vacation.

Still, contrary to the cheerful look and image projected from the outside of the building, the inside told a different story: the house was empty. A gloomy atmosphere permeated the household.

The first floor had nothing but going up a set of stairs that showed the rooms of the would-be inhabitants of the house were all barren, except for one.

David Mackamore lived alone in this house for most of his life, and today things were the same as usual for him.

David would wake up around eight in the morning, the usual headache pounding his head from working so long the past couple of days, on both morning and night shifts, back in Northpass. He worked multiple odd jobs in the city on the weekdays and maybe weekends if he was not as tired as usual.

He would usually get four hours of sleep on weekdays, and weekends were spent sleeping a lot to make up for whatever he lost.

Opening his eyes this time, David pulls back the blankets and sheets on his bed before getting up to use the restroom.

His body was sore all over, but then again, when was it not since one of his jobs was working at a construction site during the day, and having to move heavy items around was a requirement, which was fine, were it not for the fact that it did not help that most of his jobs were physically demanding.

The only job he could say was not very labor-intensive was working at a 24/7 convenience store near the city's downtown on the graveyard night shift.

Now, why was he doing this? The most obvious reason would be money, but that was due to a mountain of debt his father had left him a few years ago.

David's father used to be the mayor of Northpass and, after a few years in power, abused his position to rob people of their money and use it for himself to buy whatever he wanted. As a result, when these findings came to light, he was arrested but ran away with as much money as possible, leaving him and his mother to deal with the people demanding their money back.
