Well I went back to LA in the private jet, I spent the day with Brian, Mia, and Dom. Their company helped me shake off the weight on my chest and get my head straight.
After Mia and Brian headed to a safer location, it was just me and Dom at 1327— the old place. I went to the kitchen and reached for my tablets.
"Are those antidepressants?" Dom's voice startled me from behind. "Dom! You scared me half to death." I spun around, clutching my chest.
"No, they're contraceptives," I said, brushing off the question as I grabbed my jacket. Dom didn't let it slide. "That bastard didn't use protection?" His asked sharply.
I hesitated before giving him a brief nod. "Can we not talk about this right now?" At the hospital where Luke was recovering, Elena met us in the hallway.
"Elle," I greeted warmly.
"Yuri, how are you holding up?" she asked, pulling me into a hug. "Better, thanks," I replied as she led us to Luke's room.
"Shattered collarbone, fractured leg in two places," she explained. "He only woke up this morning. First thing he asked for was, 'Get me Dom.'"
Inside the room, Luke greeted us with a tired grin. "Got something for you—your files," Elena said, handing him a folder. "Appreciate it," Luke replied.
Dom leaned against the door, smirking. "You risk your life for the free world, and this is the reward? Jell-O and reruns of bad TV?"
Luke chuckled. "Hey, it's not all bad. The sponge baths have their moments."
"Dad!" a young voice chimed from the corner of the room. "Sammy!" I exclaimed, sweeping her into a hug. "Wow, look at you. Getting taller every time I see you."
"Where've you been this past year?" she asked, tilting her head. "Had some things to handle back home," I replied as she wriggled free of my arms.
She turned to Dom with a cheeky grin. "Dominic Toretto, huh? My dad says he kicked your butt once." I couldn't help but smile. "Nice, Luke. What are you teaching her?"
"Hey, young lady, watch the sass," Luke warned playfully, Dom smirked, unfazed. "Your dad's on heavy pain meds. Let's not trust his memory just yet."
"I doubt that," Sam shot back. "Alright, enough," Luke said with a chuckle. "Go grab a snack with Elena while I talk to Toretto."
Elena guided Sam out as I turned to Luke, grinning. "Luuuke," I sang teasingly, draping myself over him in a mock hug.
"Careful!" he groaned.
"Oh, hush, don't be such a baby." I settled into the chair next to his bed.
Dom's tone turned serious. "Who did this?"
Luke gave me a surprised glance. "You didn't tell him?" I shook my head, looking away. "I didn't get the chance. Things have been... hectic."
Luke sighed, patting my head like I was a kid. "You remember Owen Shaw? The guy we tore through half of London to catch? This is his brother. Meet Deckard Shaw."
