Akira's POV
"Akira, get up." Someone shook me awake, their voice sharp but not loud enough to make me want to listen. I groaned, still heavy with sleep, and swatted at the hand near my face.
My fingers brushed over smooth skin. "Rome? Is that you?" I mumbled groggily, blinking just enough to see the blurry outline of a bald head.
"We're here. Time to switch trucks. Get up." His tone had that no-nonsense vibe, but I was too far gone to care.
"Rome, pleeease, five more minutes," I whined, turning over like I could negotiate my way out of this mission.
"You can sleep after we're done. Now move it!"
Still half-asleep, I opened my arms dramatically. "Fine. Carry me."
To my surprise, he actually picked me up like a sack of potatoes. I smirked for half a second before completely passing out again in his arms.
A Few Hours Later~~~~
I jolted awake to a freezing splash of water on my face, my eyes snapping open. My brain barely registered the fact that I was being carried princess style by none other than Deckard.
"Seriously?" I groaned, shoving at his chest, which earned me an unceremonious drop right onto my backside.
"Awake now?" Rome's voice cut through my mortification as I noticed the whole team standing around, watching me like a soap opera cliffhanger.
"Unfortunately," I muttered, taking Luke's outstretched hand and pulling myself up. The truck's cold metallic floor beneath me was unforgiving, but I was awake.
"Here." Little Nobody handed me a cup of steaming hot chocolate like a reluctant barista. "Awww, thanks, cutie," I said teasingly.
He cleared his throat, cheeks pink. "Don't misunderstand. I only brought it because Mr. Nobody told me to."
We disembarked a little later, greeted by the lovely aroma of rotting fish.
I gagged.
"And why are we traveling like this again?" Rome asked, pinching his nose dramatically.
"Because Dom took God's Eye," Tej said matter-of-factly, "so we're staying off the grid."
Rome didn't look convinced. "And this counts as off the grid? My dignity's dying one whiff at a time."
"I feel that." I grimaced. "I need a shower ASAP."
Rome made a face. "Look, before I lose my lunch, can someone please tell me why we're here?" Little Nobody smirked as he led us toward a garage. "Welcome to our new base of operations."
Inside, the garage gleamed like a car enthusiast's fever dream.
"No, seriously. What is this place?" Letty asked, clearly impressed. "This," Tej interjected with a dreamy grin, "is heaven."
Luke rolled his eyes. "It's the agency garage. They call it the Toy Shop."
Little Nobody explained, "Every vehicle here was seized from East Coast drug dealers. Mr. Nobody figured if we're catching Dom, we'll need speed. This helps."
Tej zeroed in on a tank, his eyes lighting up. "750 horsepower, 6.6-liter V8 Duramax engine, M153 CROWS remotely operated weapon station on top," he said reverently.
"You didn't get that from dealers." I raised a brow.
Little Nobody grinned. "No, the Army lent it to us." "Machines like this keep soldiers alive by letting them operate from a safe distance," I explained, running a hand over the metal.
