Akira's POV

After sunset, the back alley was buzzing with a big crowd of street racers started to gather. Brian and I pulled up, tagging along with them.

We stepped out of the car, and I leaned against the hood, crossing my arms. "What am I even doing here, Brian?" I sighed, already regretting this.

"Watching me win," he replied with that annoyingly confident grin of his.

I raised an eyebrow. "Win? Against who, may I ask?"

"Dominic Toretto," he said casually.

"Who's that?" I asked, frowning.

Brian reached out and started playing with my hair absentmindedly. "The guy who told me to stay away from the store," he explained.

"Ohhh, the bulky guy," I realized. He nodded.

I glanced around the crowd, already feeling out of place. "When is he even coming? I'm so bored right now," I whined dramatically.

Brian chuckled. "Bored? Look at all these beauties out here," he said, scanning the crowd.

I rolled my eyes. "Ugh, I don't know how they dress like that!"

"Like what?" he asked, clearly enjoying this.

"Like they're basically naked, Brian!" I whispered, horrified.

He just laughed. "Not everyone's as decent as you, huh?"

I gave him a look. "Okay, I wouldn't say 'decent,' but come on! Underwear and bras are kinda important!"

"Yeah, yeah. Keep talking like that, and you're gonna stay a virgin forever," he teased, making me glare at him.

I flipped him off. "I'd rather die a virgin than lose my first time to some random stranger, thank you very much."

(A/N: She's definitely gonna regret saying that later.)

Before Brian could throw another sarcastic comment my way, some guy from the crowd walked up to us, his eyes locked on Brian's car. "Sweet ride. What you running under there, man?"

I blinked. Yeah, no idea what they're talking about, so I stayed quiet.

"Gonna make me find out the hard way?" The guy smirked. "Hell, yeah." Brian, of course, just flashed his usual grin.

"You brave. You brave." He stuck out his hand. "They call me Hector. Got a last name, too, but I can't pronounce it."

Brian shook his hand. "Brian Spilner." Then he motioned to me. "This is Akira Yukimura."

I shook Hector's hand with a polite smile, but then he turned to Brian with a grin. "Typical white-boy name. Know what I'm saying? Hey, is she your girl?" he asked, giving me a once-over.

Before I could even respond, Brian threw his hands on my shoulders like he was marking his territory. "Yes, she is. Any problem?"

Hector looked like he got caught off guard and quickly shook his head. "Nah, man, no problem." He pointed at a car parked nearby. "See that over there? That's mine. My baby. But I ain't cutting her loose tonight."

"Why not?" I asked, genuinely curious.

"Because I'm going legit, homey," Hector said with a shrug. "Trying to get on the NIRA circuit. You heard of it?"

"Hell, yeah," Brian replied enthusiastically.

Meanwhile, I just nodded along like I had any clue what they were talking about.
