"Ahh, ride Saki," The frantic breathing of the teenage chocolate haired girl, commanded the owner of her much-needed transport. The two buns that sat either side of her head bounced as she hopped onto her best friend's bike. "I don't want to miss the doctor's lecture!"
The blonde woman, geared up the bicycle, taking stance and pushing the left peddle with enough force to set off with both herself and her friend on the bike. "Never known you sleep in Emiko," Saki laughed, peddling as fast as she could. "Up all night dreaming of the doctor, we're we?"
Emiko blushed, shaking Saki by the shoulders, causing the bike to lose its balance, tipping slightly, almost falling until Saki managed to pull them back up straight. "Dr Masakuni is giving a very important speech today," Emiko whined, her grip getting tighter. "One that brings science and fantasy together, how can I not be excited?"
"You and those Silver fairy tales," Saki sighed, disappointment in her friend's childish dreams still. "No one has ever found proof that the silver crystal thingy ever existed. Why's this doctor's research any better?"
Emiko looked up to the sky, smiling widely as she saw birds dancing around each other above them. "Because his dedication," Was all Emiko said, Saki lowing a raspberry at the silly reasoning. She groaned, Emiko leaning over her shoulder pointing to the building with a shrinking line vanishing in the entrance. "We're still on time!"
Saki laughed tilting the bike in a way to slow momentum while keeping them steady. They came to a stop and Emiko jumped off, running to the entrance. Shaking her head, Saki removed her helmet and secured her bike in the rack before following Emiko to line of other eager goers. Though Emiko looked, her attention was elsewhere, she was looking to the side of the building. Looking away for a second to put her helmet in her back bag, Emiko had walked down the side of the building. Scooping her skirt underneath as she knelt down Emiko looked intensely at the cat before her. A grey cat with black tipped tail and paws, whining in pain, seeing its tail caught under a bolder. "Hey, what you doing?" Saki called out, kneeling beside Emiko, who paid no attention to Saki as she waved a hand in front of her face. Why was she so fixated on this cat? Emiko leant forward, pulling the small bolder, no bigger than her hand off the cat's tail. "Poor thing. It must have fell on the cat when it jumped from the bank."
Emiko smiled as the cat stretched, wagging its tail and looking at her blissfully. The cat bowed its head; "Thank you miss."
Emiko's mouth twitched as she and Saki stared at each other. "Did y-"
"Yeah, I heard it too."
They looked back to the cat who had snuck through the back entrance of the building. Emiko and Saki scurried up to follow the cat. Did they really hear it speak? Was there a gas leak somewhere that had played tricks on their mind? The managed to get in through the back entrance, looking around for members of staff but it seemed emptier than you'd expect from a guest lecture. "I'll go check over here," Saki said running off in the opposite direction.
Emiko stalked through the railing pulling back cables as she continued to look for the cat. Did I really hear it talk? "Hey," Emiko squealed, her body stiffened as she heard someone scream behind her. She bit her lip, trying to think of a way she could escape without being arrested for trespassing. She let out a squeak feeling something pass her leg. Cautiously she looked behind seeing the cat jumping up into the arms of a boy with white spiked hair. The boy tutted seeing the cat's tail and the injured it had sustained from the boulder. "Damn it Nasa," He groaned, looking up to Emiko. "Finding strangers and getting hurt, you've had quite the adventure." Emiko blushed as the boy's deep red eyes stared into her own blue eyes. "You shouldn't be back here, you know?"
"S-sorry," Emiko stuttered bowing repeatedly. "But we were looking for the cat as we thought we heard it talk."
The boy stared at her, not sure about the sentence he heard. He picked up two things, one, she wasn't alone and two, she heard "Him talk?" Emiko sighed, nodding, knowing how crazy she sounded. "I assure you; he doesn't talk. Nasa is just a normal cat, believe it or not."
"Guess I just imagined things," Emiko tried to laugh the situation off. "If I can be cheeky to ask," The boy gave Emiko his full attention as she tried to avoid his gaze, feeling shy about her next question. "Can we forget about this please? I've been looking forward to seeing Dr Masakuni all week and I don't want to waste this opportunity."
The boy hummed, raising a brow, looking to Emiko and then back to Nasa. Emiko played with her hands, waiting for the boy to respond. "Okay, sure," He smirked, Emiko bowing lowly before running off. "Also make sure your friend is gone too."
Damnit Saki! Emiko cursed to herself, looking around for Saki before hearing her voice screaming from outside. Sighing, Emiko met up with the short-tempered friend who was kicking at wall furiously. "Call me crazy!" she moaned, clicking her tongue and turning to Emiko. "You got found too, huh?"
Emiko nodded, the pair making their way back to main entrance. "I even found the cat," She proclaimed. "Including his owner." Emiko felt her cheeks heat up a bit, thinking back to the red eyes that seemed to look through her.
"So, what's his name?" Saki gave a goofy smile, elbowing Emiko to entice an answer.
"Nasa," Emiko answered innocently.
Saki slapped her head before using her hand to flick at Emiko's forehead. "The owner! Not the cat!"
"O-oh. I didn't get it."
"Moron."
Without any hassle, the girls managed to enter the hall, minutes before the talk was due to begin. Looking around, the hall was barely at half compacity. Professor Masakuni a renowned scientist and engineer seemed to have lost creditability by bringing on a theory of the power of the legendary 'Silver Crystal'. The tales of this crystal on par with King Arthur and his legendary sword from the stone, as in was it real, is it a fairy tale people chose to believe in? Emiko clenched her skirt into her hands. To her, if someone as well-known as Masakuni believed in it, he must have proof to back up its existence. The lights dimmed and all attention went to the stage. Masakuni appearing in the spot light with the same boy from before beside him, both dawning a lab coat while the boy held papers and Masakuni held a clicker for the white board behind him.
"Shut the front door," Emiko whispered to herself, her gaze following the boy's movements as he sat behind a desk set up on stage. The boy looked to the crowd, Emiko swearing he looked at her, giving her something that resembled a smile before he looks to a note pad before him. Is he Masakuni's assistant?
"The legendary Silver Crystal," Masakuni proclaimed, holding his arms wide open, an artist rendition of the crystal appearing behind them. It looked like a normal jewel you could find in any store, so why is this one so important? "The reason the Silver Millennium lived prosperous for a thousand years is said to be because of this Crystal." Masakuni started to walk along the stage. "This Crystal was bestowed upon Tokyo in the 20th century by her majesty, Neo Queen Serenity." Another slide, this time a rendition of her majesty. Beautiful silver hair and memorising blue eyes. A queen so majestic, even in a painting, you could feel the love that came from her eyes.
Emiko couldn't take her attention away from the presentation from start to finish, hanging on every word Masakuni spoke. If Tokyo could once again get hold of this Crystal, then the people could once again be blessed with its power. That was Masakuni's goal; to begin an investigation as to its whereabouts and failing that, to create his own. Was it possible? Making your own Silver Crystal? "I'm not sure what you liked more," Saki said, as she peddled to the shopping centre, eager to get lunch. "That talk or the boy you kept staring at."
"Eh?" Emiko squealed. "Why are you saying that?"
"Ha-ha. I watched you," Saki howled at Emiko's embarrassment. "I think someone's got a little crush."
Emiko whined, hiding her face in the nape of Saki's neck. Her heart thumped heavily as she continued to think of the boy. I wonder if it was fate to meet Nasa so he could lead me to that boy? Emiko wondered. I really do believe in fairy tales far too much.
Saki smiled, noticing how quite Emiko had gotten, knowing she must be deep in thought. In her own head, starting to feel determined to find this guy who was becoming Emiko's latest obsession.

In an apartment sat in the middle of Tokyo, the assistant to Masakuni sat on the window ledge, Nasa on his lap, sleeping peacefully and beside him, a music box with a Pegasus circling as the music played. An image of Emiko blushing before him, avoiding his gaze made him laugh lightly. "Damnit Senku," He cursed to himself. "You should have at least asked her name before you let her go free." Nasa wiggled in his lap, stretching out before jumping so his front paws were on Senku's chest and his face level with Senku's. Senku placed Nasa's left ear in between his thumb and finger, giving it a gentle rub, making Nasa lean into the touch. "She was pretty cute," Senku spoke honestly. "You trying to play matchmaker, huh?"
Nasa gave a meow, making Senku laugh, in his head, hearing Nasa saying yes though he knows Nasa cannot speak. "It's been just you and me for a while now," Senku sighed, leaning back against the wall. "Sometimes you need to cuddle a human over a cat I guess." Nasa let out a higher meow at this point. "Sorry but you do."
That's why I should find that girl again. I might not be so lonely, with someone as cute as her in my life.
