Carter's POV:
I carried the many grocery bags through the front door and placed them on the counter in the kitchen. I sighed as I shook my hands out and then started taking the items out of the bags one by one and putting them away.
Marcus followed suit, carrying multiple bags and placing them on the counter. "Damn, I didn't know we needed so many groceries," he groaned out.
I rolled my eyes and as I placed the cereal boxes on the top shelf of the pantry. "I get this many groceries every week, you're just usually sleeping when I go to get them," I teased him.
He glared at me. "Look, it's not easy doing the overnight shift at a gas station."
"I never said it was easy," I reminded him.
"'Kay, well you're kinda judge-y," he said.
I rolled my eyes again as I grabbed more groceries from the bags. "Are you gonna help me put these away or just stand there?"
He sighed and walked over to the counter, grabbing some items out of a bag and started putting them where they went. We did this in silence for a few moments before he spoke up. "Does this go under the sink?" He asked, holding up a bottle of this new cleaner I wanted to try for my shower.
"No, I'll just take it up to my bathroom," I said.
He nodded his head and held it out to me. I took it from him and made my way out of the kitchen. I walked past the living room and up the stairs, heading to the master bedroom. I entered the room and walked straight to the master bathroom. I entered the bathroom and placed the cleaner under my bathroom sink.
I stood and quickly turned to leave the bathroom. I exited the bathroom and turned a little too sharply and stubbed my toe on the side of my dresser, causing something to fall off the top. "Ow," I yelped as I lifted my foot up to my hand to rub my pinky toe.
I rubbed and pulled at it for a minute before placing my foot back down on the ground. I looked over at what fell and noticed that it was a picture Drama that was facing down. I immediately knew what picture it was though, it's the only picture I had in a frame.
I approached it and picked it up, hoping that the glass wasn't broken. I flipped it over and let out a sigh of relief when I saw that there were no cracks.
I then stared at the picture of Jesse and I. It's the only picture we have together. We took it in front of his mom's house before saying goodbye.
I smiled at the picture before placing it back down on top of the dresser.
"Carter, where does this go?" I heard Marcus shout from downstairs causing me to chuckle and make my way out of the room.
.....
I placed two plates across from each other on the dining table. I then grabbed silverware and placed them accordingly beside the plates. I went to go grab the cubs out of the cabinet when I noticed that my food was almost done, so I made that priority one. Don't want the food burning.
I finished cooking the rest of the steak that we were having for dinner before checking to see if the green beans in the pan on the back burner were almost finished. They were perfect. I went back to grabbing the cups and placing them on the table.
The back door opened and Marcus walked in. "That food smells delicious," he complimented.
I sent him a smile. "Thanks, I can't wait to eat it."
He nodded his head before holding up a takeout bag. "Well I just picked up my food for the night, so I'll be upstairs if you guys' need me," he said and then turned around heading toward the staircase.
Right then, the front door opened and Jesse walked in.
"Hey, sorry I'm late. Work was crazy today," he said as he took his jacket off, hanging it on the coat rack.
"Actually you're right on time, I just finished setting everything up."
He turned and sniffed the air. "That food smells delicious," he commented before making his way over to me.
"So I've heard," I said right before he kissed me on the lips. He held the kiss for a moment before pulling away and staring into my eyes.
"I love you," he told me.
I smiled. "I love you too."
We stared at each other for a moment longer before he broke the silence. "I'm starving. Let's eat!"
I chuckled lightly before grabbing my plate and making my way to the kitchen.
I approached the food and used the tongs to place one of the steaks on my plate, before handing the tongs to him. He followed suit and placed his steak on his plate. We both then got our green beans before heading back to the dining room. I was about to sit down when I remembered I had rolls in the oven.
"I almost forgot," I said aloud. I rushed back to the kitchen and grabbed both of us a bread roll.
I quickly made my way back to the table, and handed him his bread.
He thanked me as he took the food from me.
"Thank you for making dinner," he said.
I sent him a smile and shrugged my shoulders. "No problem. Dig in."
.....
"That was so good," he said as he placed his silverware down on his plate.
"Yeah, I did pretty good," I joked, causing him to laugh.
"It reminded me of my moms cooking," he commented, his smile of happiness transitioning into one of nostalgia.
I stared at him, not really knowing what to say. "Do you miss her?" I whispered, not really sure why I was speaking so quietly.
I looked up at me and nodded his head. "Yeah."
"We can go visit-" I started to say before being cut off.
"No. We can't put you in danger like that."
I sighed and looked down. "I just hate that you had to leave her for me."
He quickly stood up and made his way over to me, kneeling down beside my chair. "Hey, I didn't have to, I chose to. I wanted to be with you, to keep you safe," he reassured me as he placed his hand under my chin, bringing my face up to look into his eyes. "I couldn't do that if I wasn't with you."
I stared in his eyes, knowing he meant every word of what he said. I nodded my head and then leaned forward, planting my lips on his.
I kissed him deeply for a moment before pulling away, keeping my forehead resting against his.
"I love you," I told him.
He smiled. "I love you too."
And I knew he meant it. For the first time in my life, I truly believed someone when they said that to me.
I'm happy, safe, and loved. And it's because of him.
.....

Once again, I'm so sorry for all the long periods of time where I never wrote anything.
Like there was literally multiple times where I didn't update for a year. And then even a time where I didn't update for TWO years. Like, I'm so sorry and there's no excuse.
I hope you all enjoyed the ending. Please forgive me lmao.
