"Mom, is it okay if Carter comes over for dinner?" I ask as I walk into the living room, where she is currently sitting on the couch.

I had just gotten home from school, and my first priority was to ask my mom if Carter could come over.

She turned her head from the TV, where she was watching an episode of The Fosters, and looked over to where I was standing. "Harry is coming over to have dinner with us tonight." She said.

I scoffed. "Well thanks for telling me ahead of time!" I retorted sarcastically.

She rolled her eyes and then smiled at me. "Carter can come over for dinner also. It's about time I meet the infamous Carter." She said teasingly.

I groaned. "Mom, please don't embarrass me tonight!" I begged.

She chuckled. "But it's fun to embarrass you. What kind of mother would I be if I didn't embarrass you in front of your crushes?" She continued to tease before she got a sparkle in her eyes. "I need to go find your baby photos!" She exclaimed as she rushed off the couch and up the stairs.

I groaned again. "Great." I said to myself sarcastically.

.....

"Jesse, Harry is here!" My mom shouted from downstairs.

I turned off the old TV in my room and ran down the stairs. I smiled at Harry and he opened his arms for a hug.

I chuckled. "We're not on that level yet." I said to which he laughed.

"Okay, I understand." He said as he put his arms back down at his sides.

My mom rolled her eyes as she grabbed Harry's arm and dragged him off to the kitchen. I chuckled and was about to head after them, when the doorbell suddenly sounded.

I smiled as I turned to the front door. I opened it to see Carter standing there in a black button up shirt, black dress pants, and black dress shoes.

I chuckled. "You're a little overdressed." I said, teasingly.

He blushed and looked down. "Sorry, I just didn't know what to wear..." He trailed off.

I smiled at him. "It's okay, you can wear something of mine. Something more comfortable." I told him.

He looked up at me with a small smile. "Really?" He asked.

"Yeah, definitely!" I exclaimed as I grabbed his hand and pulled him into the house.

I shut the front door and started running up the stairs, pulling him along with me. "We'll be right down for dinner!" I shouted out, hoping my mom heard me.

I pulled him into my room. I started rummaging through my closet, looking for something for him to wear.

I found a Nirvana hoodie. "Take your shirt off." I said to him.

His eyes got wide before he looked at the ground. He stayed like that for a little before his hands slowly moved up to the top of his shirt. He slowly started unbuttoning it. He got to the final button and then slowly slid it off his shoulders.

All along his upper half were bruises. They were all different sizes, colors, and shades. I could tell some of them were quite fresh. He was also very thin. In fact, he was so thin that you could see the outline of some of his ribs.

He wrapped his arms around his torso, as if to try and cover his body. I walked up to him. I stood before him for a few seconds before gently pulling his body into mine.

I wrapped my arms around his torso, while he kept his around himself. I allowed myself to slowly breathe as I tried to come down the anger that I could feel rising within me.
