I turned the corner with Hunter's Jeep and drove as quickly as I could to make it to the airport in time. Hopefully, that is.

"Drive carefully! We don't want to get in an accident and never be able to see Carter again," Marcus said from the passengers seat, as I sped onto the highway.

"Oh, you're one to talk," I replied. "You know, Carter was waiting for you to come back. He was so upset when you left; it broke his heart. And it broke my heart to know his was broken. Just for me to find out that you were at your parents place this entire!"

"I wasn't there the entire time! You don't know anything so just focus on driving," he replied and crossed his arms over his chest.

I rolled my eyes but kept my focus on the road.

I swerved through other vehicles, ignoring the honks that I got from a few people.

"So where were you then?" I asked.

"It's none of your business," Marcus replied.

I glared over at him for a second. "Oh really? It's none of my business? You know, the only person that has cared about or taken care of Carter in years! It's not like I'm the one who rushed after him to save him while you were sitting on your ass at your parents place," I growled out.

"I wasn't just sitting on my ass," he said, his voice raising a bit in volume.

"Well you didn't seem to be running out the door to get to the airport."

"I had just gotten to the house a few minutes before you!" He shouted. "Jerald was filling me in on the situation when you came banging on the door," he finished, in a calmer tone.

I know I probably shouldn't be prying. But I care about Carter, a lot, and I need to make sure that his brother truly means him well. "Where were you coming from?" I asked.

"What?"

"You said you had just gotten to your parents house, where were you coming from?" I repeated.

He sighed and was silent for a moment before he started to spill. "I've been staying at a hotel. I just... I feel so awful about never realizing what was going on. Carter's my brother and my parents were always a little cruel to him but I never thought they would've..." He turned his head to stare out the window as he continued. "I should've been there. I should've come home more often. I should've made sure he was okay. I didn't, and he wasn't," I could tell he was crying, or that he was about to at least.

"I confronted my parents after leaving your place. They didn't even deny it. They felt...feel no remorse for what they've done... I punched my dad," I looked over to him but then quickly focused my eyes back on the road. "I couldn't go back to your place and face him again, so I got a hotel room. And that's where I've been ever since."

It was silent for a moment. I didn't know what to say. I'm glad that he stuck up to his parents for Carter, but I'm upset at him for not coming back. I could understand he was embarrassed to see Carter because he wasn't there for him, but Carter needed him.

"He understands why you weren't there for him, you had no idea what was going on," I said after a few moments of silence. "But you know now, and no matter how embarrassed or ashamed you are... Carter needs you.

"You may not have been there for him then, but you can be there for him now."

He didn't respond, he just stared out the passenger window. I could tell though that he knew what I said was true.

"We're approaching the airport," I said as I pulled off the freeway.

I was about to pull up to the front of the airport when Marcus stopped me. "They're using a private jet, you'll have to drive around back."

I quickly did a u-turn and drove to the side of the airport, but there was a fence preventing us from getting onto the grounds.

I ran up to the fence and started to climb it.

"Stop!" I heard a stern voice shout on the other end and I looked up to see a security guard standing on the other side of the fence.

I dropped down and looked the guy in the eyes. "Please, help. There is someone who is about to be kidnapped on a private jet."

The security guard squinted his eyes. "Who?" He asked, suspicious of me.

"My brother, his name is Carter Martindale," Marcus suddenly said, approaching the fence as well.

"Well who's he being kidnapped by?"

"My parents."

"Are they not supposed to have custody of him or something?" He asked as he eyed me and Marcus, still unsure of us and our story.

"No, it's nothing like that, but they are very bad people. They verbally, physically and emotionally abuse him and if they get away with him... I'm scared we'll never see him again," I told him.

The man continued to stare at us, his eyes moving from me to Marcus.

"Please... you can help us," Marcus pleaded.

He sighed, before reaching his right hand up to the walkie talkie on his upper chest. "Has there been any passengers today for a private plane, under the name of... what was it again?"

"Martindale," Marcus and I both said.

"Under the name of Martindale?" He spoke into the walkie talkie. It was silent for a moment before a voice responded.

"Uh, yeah. It looks like they just took off."

My heart sank in my chest at those words. I could feel my legs get weak and my stomach flip.

"No..." I heard Marcus mumble from beside me.

My head started to pound and my eyes got blurry. I can't believe he's gone. I tried so hard to make it here in time, and I failed. I failed Carter.

I'm so sorry Carter.
