Carter has really been opening up to me. I asked him to hang out with me over the weekend but for some reason he was super busy.
He was literally busy every second of both days, so I didn't have a chance to hang out with him.
But we hung out quite a bit during school on Monday. It's now Wednesday, him and I are currently walking around before the homeroom bell rings.
"What's your favorite food?" I asked him.
He giggled slightly. "I don't know. I'm not sure if I have a favorite."
"Do you even eat?" I asked, jokingly. Though he doesn't look like he eats a lot. He's super thin.
He didn't laugh in response this time though. He just looked off into the distance. I waved my hand in front of his eyes, which caused him to flinch back and almost fall. Luckily, I caught him before he fell. "Are you okay?" I asked. "You sorta zoned out there for a second."
He shook his head and then laughed awkwardly. "Y-yeah...I'm fine..." He trailed off, slowly looking away.
I wanted to ask him again but as soon as I was about to speak, the homeroom bell rang.
"I have to go." He said, right before he ran off.
.....
"What's with you always running off in the morning? Or never being able to hang out after school?" I asked Carter as we both started to eat our lunches.
He shrugged. "Nothing." He responded, but I could pick out the lie. He wasn't even looking me in the eye but when he responded, he had a faraway look.
"Well that was a total lie." I said, calling him out on his lie.
He closed his eyes and sighed. When he opened them back up he looked at me with an annoyed expression. "I don't want to talk about it. Okay?" He said, in a snappish tone.
I sighed. "Okay, okay." I responded as I held my hands up in defeat.
I wasn't actually just going to give up though, I was just going to secretly find out what's going on.
The bell marking the end of the lunch period rank. Everyone stood from their seats and rushed out of the cafeteria.
"Hey!" I said to Carter, grabbing his attention before he ran off. "What are you doing after school?" I asked him.
"I'm busy." He responded and tried to rush off but I caught up with him and walked alongside him.
"Ok, how about I rephrase that." I said, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him off to the side of the hallway. "You're hanging out with me after school." I said, causing him to shudder slightly.
"I-I r-really wish I-I could..." He trailed off as he shook.
I wrapped my arms around his waste. "Tell me why you can't hang out." I said. "Tell me who's hurting you."
He shushed me. "Someone will hear you!" He hissed at me. "No one can find out about that." He said as he shook his head.
"Well they should. It's illegal. Whoever is doing that to you can't just go around thinking they can do that to you and get away with it." I said, staring straight in his eyes such a harsh look. "I won't allow it."
He shuddered and released his breath that he was holding. "I-I..." He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. "It's not that simple."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "It is though. Just tell me who's doing that to you and I'll make them-" Before I could finish my sentence, the late bell rang.
