"Well that explains his clothing." His mother said while looking me up and down.
Jeez, bitch!
"Aren't you a little young to be a gardener though?" She said as she walked down the steps and approached me. "You look like you're in high school."
"He-" Carter started to talk but his mother cut him off.
"Let him talk!" She said.
I cleared my throat, mainly so I could cut my growl back before I spoke.
"I am in high school, ma'am." I replied kindly, even though I really hated being nice to this witch. "It's always good to get an early start."
She nodded her head, while staring at me suspiciously. "Okay, well that bush over there really needs cut back."
I started nodding my head when I realized I didn't have any gardening tools with me. "Um, I was actually just observing the area today. I'm going to actually be starting tomorrow."
She rolled her eyes and sighed, before nodding. "Very well, continue." She waved dismissively with her hand.
She turned around and went inside. I glared at the door. "I hate her." I said aloud to myself, but Carter heard me.
I could've sworn I saw him nodding from the side but when I turned towards him, he was just looking down. "I should probably show you out." He said, leading the way down the long driveway. I caught up to him and walked next to him.
"How did you even get in?" He asked, curiously.
I hesitated before responding. "I sorta snuck through the gate after your car drove in."
He giggled lightly. "What are you, Kim Possible or something?"
I chuckled as he did to for a couple more seconds. "I guess I work here now." I said.
He sighed and nodded his head. "Yeah..." He trailed off. "Can you do me a favor...?" He asked hesitantly.
I nodded my head. "Of course." I responded.
"Could you not tell people about the this you see here? Like what you saw back there." He motioned behind us.
He didn't have to specify what he was talking about, I knew exactly. "You know it's not right what she does to you, right?" I asked.
He sighed and nodded his head. "I know."
"Does your father treat you like that too?" I asked him.
He looked down at the ground for about a minute, I gave him his time though. He finally spoke after the long silent. "Worse."
"What?" I asked.
"He treats me worse than my mom does."
I stared at him in shock before looking ahead of us at the gate we were approaching. "What's the code for the gate so I know for tomorrow?" I asked.
"You never answered my question." He said.
"What question?" I asked, trying to remember what question he was talking about.
"Please don't tell anyone about what you witness here, including that incident back there." He said, to which I took in a shaky breath and released.
I thought about what I should say before responding. "I will tell if it gets worse. If I notice one thing that seems too far then I will tell." I responded.
He got a worried look in his eyes but nodded anyway. "The gate code is 6793."
I nodded my head. "Thanks." I said as I opened the gate.
I was about to walk away when I suddenly turned around and hugged Carter. He tensed up for a few seconds before slowly relaxing. He wrapped his arms around my torso and hid his face in my neck.
We hugged for about ten seconds before I tried pulling away, he didn't pull away at first but then realized that we'd been hugging for a while. He pulled away from me and looked down.
I put my finger under his chin and lifted his head up to see tears welling in his eyes. "Thank you." He said as a stray tear fell down his cheek.
I smiled at him, eventhkugh sadness was eating me up inside at seeing my little kitten like this. "Of course, kitten." I replied before leaning in and kissing his cheek.
He tensed when I kissed his cheek. But when I pulled away, he was blushing like crazy. I chuckled as he blushed some more and looked down at the ground in embarrassment.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I said as I turned around and ran across the street do Hunter's jeep. I got in and looked back to see Carter standing at the gate, still watching me.
I smiled and waved, as did he.
I didn't want to leave until he went back up the driveway. He turned around after waving to me and rushed back up the long ass driveway.
I then took off.
.....
I drove Hunter's jeep to school on Friday, considering I forgot it yesterday. I left it in the school parking for him to pick back up after school.
I then walked into the school, heading towards Carter's locker.
I turned the corner to the hallway where his locker was and saw the side of his body in front of his locker. I approached him and smiled when I got to him.
"Hey cutie." I said with a smile, but that smile was replaced with a frown as soon as Carter looked at me.
Half of his face was bruised!
"What the hell happened?!" I asked in anger.
He shook his head. "Nothing." He responded, to which I scoffed.
"That's complete bullshit! Was it your mom or your dad?!" I asked, not realizing how angry I had sounded.
He shushed me as he shut his locker. "People will hear you." He said as he glanced around nervously.
"I don't care if people hear." I told him. "I told you that I was going to tell people if it got worse, well this is worse!" I exclaimed, motioning towards his face.
He got a fearful look in his eyes. "No, you can't do that!" He yelled at me.
"Yes I can, and I will!" I yelled back and made him flinch.
"If you do that I'll run away."
.....
