The bell for the final period of the day rang and I started looking around for Carter. I first went to his locker, but he wasn't there. Then I went to the busses and looked around for him but I couldn't find him.

I was about to give up hope when I saw him walking out of the school and towards the school parking lot.

I started walking in his direction. "Hey!" I called out to him. He didn't turn around. "Carter!" I shouted a little louder.

He turned around got wide eyes when he saw me. He turned back around and started walking faster.

I started jogging towards him. Damn, he's fast. I finally caught up to him and grabbed his arm. "Carter-" I started to speak but he let out a yelp and yanked his arm out of my grip.

He tried to turn around but tripped over his own feet and fell to the ground, has backpack falling off his shoulders and his belonging flying out of it. My eyes widened as I kneeled down next to him. "Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" I asked him in a panic.

His breaths were slow and steady but he nodded his head. "I'm fine!" He growled at me.

"Here," I said as I grabbed his backpack and started putting his stuff back in it. "Let me help you gather your stuff." I read his name off a piece of paper as I picked it up. It read Carter Martindale. Martindale. I like it.

"I don't need your help!" He shouted as he grabbed his bag from my hands and started shoving his stuff back in it.

I didn't listen to him though and continued helping him gather his stuff. I know he didn't like me helping, but I could tell he was secretly thankful.

"Sir..." Someone suddenly spoke from behind us, causing Carter to jump and fall back on his butt. I started chuckling but he glared at me, silencing my laughter.

He turned around and glared at the old man that was standing behind us. The man was dressed up in a fancy suit of some sort. "Gosh Jerry, you know how jumpy I am!"

The man looked down at the ground. "Of course, I am so sorry sir."

Carter sighed. "It's fine...just try not to do it again please."

"Yes sir." This Jerry guy said as he nodded his head, before turning his attention to me. "Who's your friend?" He asked.

"He's not my friend." Carter silently mumbled.

I ignored him though and turned back to the man in front of us. I stood up and held out my hand. "I'm Jesse." I said, with a smile.

He held his hand out and placed it in mine. "Jerald Martindale." He responded with a smile as we shook hands.

I gave him a confused look before looking at Carter as he stood up off the ground, giving him the same look. They look nothing alike.

"Is this your father...?" I asked, hesitantly.

Carter's eyes got wide. "Umm...he's my grandfat-"

He was suddenly interrupted by Jerald. "Yes!" He looked at Carter with wide eyes, and Carter glared at him. "I mean...I'm his grandfather..."

Carter sighed before turning to me with a smile. "Yep, I live with him since my parents died when I was little."

"Oh. I'm so sorry." I said to him, when a thought suddenly struck my head. "Wait, why were you calling him sir then?" I asked to Jerald.

He looked at Carter like a deer caught in headlights.

"Oh, that...?" Carter trailed off. "It's just a...a little...game we play."

"Oh yes, of course." Jerald agreed as he nodded his head.

"We sometimes like to pretend for fun that I'm the parent." He said.

"I thought you said your parents were dead..."

"I mean, guardian."

"Uh huh..." I trailed off as I looked at him skeptically.

Carter stood there for a second, awkwardly nodding his head slowly. "Umm...so we're going to go now." He said right before grabbing Jerald's arm and dragging him along with him.

"Goodbye Jesse!" Jerald called over his shoulder. "It was nice meeting you!"

I watched as they approached a black Jaguar, I don't know what type it was but damn did it look expensive! Jerald opened the back door and let Carter get in before walking around to the drivers side and getting in. He waved at me and smiled as they started to drive off.

.....

"I don't know, there's just something really strange about it all."

"Well yeah, it sounds like there's something weird going on to me." My mom replied, before giving me a jokingly scared look. "Do you think he's being held hostage?" She said before laughing.

I rolled my eyes and smiled slightly. "What do you think I should do?"

My mom shrugged her shoulders as she continued to stir her pasta. "I'll tell you what not to do. Don't be like Jacob." I chuckled as she smiled. "Seriously though, try to get on this boys good side. Be nice to him, held him out with stuff, say sweet things to him. I mean, don't get me wrong Jacob is a nice kid and all but the way he's going about this Timothy boy is really creepy." I started laughing again.

"Yeah, it is. Why do you think I told you?" I agreed as I chuckled.

She smiled at me. "Because I'm your best friend and you tell me everything."

I chuckled and then smiled back at her. "That is true." I said to her as I kissed her on her forehead.

She smiled at me. "I love you, honey." She kissed my cheek. "Now go get ready, supper's going to be ready soon."

I ran out of the kitchen and up the stairs to the bathroom and washed my hands.

When I came back down to the kitchen, the food was already set up on the table. There's usually only three chairs around our table but my mom had pulled out the guest chair for some reason.

"Umm...why are there three chairs?" I asked, confused.

She turned around to me, an innocent smile playing at her lips. "Well...you know that guy I went on a date with yesterday night...?" I nodded my head, not really liking where this was headed. "Well, things went really well and I wanted you to get to know him."

"What?!" I shouted in anger, and shock. "Mom!"

"I'm sorry that I didn't ask you first, but I knew that if I did you wouldn't have agreed." She said as she held her hands up.

"Of course I wouldn't have agreed." I responded, whining like a little kid. "I don't like meeting people that I don't want to meet, especially ones that are trying to get inside my moms pants!"

"Hey!" She said as she glared at me. "Watch your mouth. You better not saying anything like that when Harry gets here."

I rolled my eyes, when suddenly the door rang. I turned around and glared at it.

"This is just fucking fantastic."
