XXXVIII. NOT YOUR FAULT

Madison Argent awoke to a radiant light. Her head had been laying on a reasonably comfortable pillow, the shining sun casting down on her face.

Madison didn't recall going to bed last night. In fact, she didn't remember anything at all. She remembered going to the animal clinic to get Melissa's phone...and everything else is a blur.

Madison flinched as she heard a clatter from a few feet away. She shot up, discovering the pain in her body was gone. Not a single flicker of pain, no bruises or cuts littering her body as they were only hours ago.

"Good, you're awake." A voice announced, and Madison sat up to see a figure standing by her bedroom dresser. Madison blinked, head-turning rapidly as she analyzed her surroundings with wide eyes.

Madison was in her bedroom, sure, but it was no longer hers. The youngest Argent was sitting in her eighth-grade bedroom when she still lived in a big house with her family before Allison died. Before her mother died. Before she...

"Hello? Madison?" The voice called again, and Madison looked up. The witch's ocean blue eyes met with deep, familiar brown.

Allison Argent stood in front of Madison's bed, a small smile on her face. Madison wasted no time in hopping out of the covers, jumping into Allison's arms as she entangled her into a hug.

"Oh, my God...Alli, is that really you?" Madison implored through her sobs.

Allison had tears of her own forming in her eyes as she nodded.

"Madi...it's me." She confessed, pulling away from the hug as she fidgeted with the stray hairs on Madison's face.

The witch watched her sister sit down at the edge of the bed, the younger sister mimicking the older's action. She watched Allison's expression change from one of happiness to concern, her head turning to her sister's in a low whisper.

"Madi...why are you here? You can't be here."

"Why am I here? Why are you here? You're supposed to be dead..."

Madison trailed off as the memories of last night hit her like a train. She remembered the Dread Doctors, Mason crying from above her as she uttered her last words.

"Tell Liam I love him..." Madison's words echoed in her brain, the vulnerability and weakness laced in her tone was enough to send shivers down Madison's spine. She watched as Allison placed a comforting hand on her back.

"Oh..God...I'm dead, aren't I?" Madison realized, as she mumbled.

Allison shook her head.

"Not yet. That's why I'm here." Allison explained, and Madison titled her head in confusion.

"What do you mean?"
