LXII. RAW TALENT
Madison's slender fingers gripped the steering wheel forcefully as she recounted her evening. Why was she thinking about Liam so much?
He was the furthest thing from her mind all summer—or at least that's what she tried to convince herself of. Her eyes continuously darted backwards to Liam's sweatshirt, which was folded neatly in the seat beside her.
She swore she had meant to return it, it just slipped her mind. The werewitch jolted with surprise as her phone suddenly rang out, alerting her that she received a text message.
There were no other cars on the road as Madison quickly checked her phone and skimmed the text, realizing it was from Scott.
Scooter: Don't go home. Come to mine and I'll explain everything.
As her eyes scanned the text, an anxious pit formed in the bottom of her stomach. She wasn't sure what the text was about and was even more confused that Scott had texted her in the first place. She had been under the assumption he was leaving for college that evening.
Apparently not.
Madison changed routes as she began to drive towards the McCall household. Her legs bounced silently against the driver's seat as she turned off the radio, driving in an anxious silence.
The drive over felt longer than it actually was—the dread looming over Madison's head. She was sure whatever news Scott had waiting for her at his house wasn't good.
When she arrived, she opened the front door silently, only to be faced with Scott, Malia, Lydia, and Isaac staring back at her with concern.
She closed the door behind her as it shut with a gentle click. She forced an uncomfortable smile in an attempt to ease the tension.
"Who died?" She joked.
Her humor wasn't well received.
Madison sighed. "I assume something bad happened, then?"
Before anyone could reply, she was gently led to the couch. She looked across the room with anxiety. What was so horrible that everyone was keeping from her?
"So, Madi," Scott began after a moment, "I have some news...which you're not going to like."
Madison furrowed her eyebrows as she felt her heartbeat rise. First, she had a beyond awkward encounter with Liam, and now she had people circling her like they were about to tell her the worst news she had received in a while.
"What's wrong?" Madison asked, plopping down on the couch.
Scott sat down beside her, along with Isaac, with Lydia and Malia beside them.
