it was summer and sebastian and i were going back to finland for off-season.
we boarded the plane to germany, one of the two flights we had booked.
"i am so excited to take a nap." he said to me.
"you and me both."
and we did just that.
slept for nearly the whole thing.
once we got off the plane we had a good few hours in the airport before we had our final flight to finland.
"i'm going to the bathroom." sebastian announced and stood up.
"okay." i smiled at him and he walked in the direction of the bathroom.
i checked the time of your next flight to make sure i had the times right.
i found our flights and ...... apparently our flight is delayed by three hours.
'crap, we're probably going to be stranded in germany for a while.' i thought to myself.
sebastian returned from the bathroom, "when's our next flight?" he asked me.
"it's delayed by three hours." i mumbled.
"oh." he wasn't expecting that.
"yeah, we can go see if we can get an earlier flight." i said.
"want me to come with you?" he asked.
"sure, you would have a better chance of understanding the staff more than i would."
"that's true." he smiled.
he could sense my nervousness, i could tell. he always tries to find to look at the good side of things. but in this situation, i don't think there is much of a good side.
"hello, do you speak english?" i hesitantly asked the lady at the front desk.
"nein, ich kann einen der englischsprachigen mitarbeiter anrufen." she responded. couldn't understand a word.
"um sure." i could have said yes to be put on a flight to iceland for all i know.
she nodded, reached for the phone on the desk and started talking into it in what seemed like gibberish for me.
i turned to sebastian, "what did i just say yes to?"
he smiled, "you just said yes to get a staff member who speaks english to come help you. i'm proud of you."
"i didn't really do much but thank you."
after talking with someone who could speak the same language, got a ticket to a flight that's in an hour.
"well, started bad but turned good." i said.
we were walked back to our seats when i saw an a & w in the corner of my vision.
"we are getting a & w wether you like it of not." i grabbed his arm and he laughed.
after we got our a & w we ate in at our seats and we boarded our flight to finland.
"finland is so beautiful." i said to sebastian as we stepped out of the airport.
"i'm glad you like it."
