giyuu jumped. he had just woken up. the moon was still up and shining, there was no trail of the glow of sunrise yet. next to him, he found a small woman laying aside him in a deep slumber.

"why is she here? i gave up my bed for her." he thought to himself.

giyuu peered upon her face, and he contemplated (surely not for the first time) the beauty of his fellow hashira.

how her black hair was lined elegantly with soft, amethyst-like tufts. the way her breathing was steadied, and how delicate each breath was. he studied how her face looked so calm while she slept.

he shook away the thought, rested one hand behind her back, the other arm under her knee. giyuu lifted her up tenderly, and placed her back on his bed. as he sat back on the floor, he heard a muffled breathing.

"no. stay." she said, her voice almost in a whisper.

"..why?" he asked cluelessly.

no answer.

he looked over at her. she seemed to be asleep, so he laid back down.

"tomioka-san. stay."

he slowly got up, and sat down on the opposing side of his bed.

"fine."

as slow as a sloth, he laid himself down, facing towards shinobu.

don't couples sleep like this? he thought to himself, then flushed, and faced the other way sprightly.

"tomioka giyuu."

the male in front of her suddenly twitched, and met her fixed stare.

"what?" giyuu asked.

"what were you thinking?" shinobu asked, her eyebrows knitted close together.

"what do you mean?" he asked again.

out of the blue, shinobu hastily grabbed one of his pillows, and slammed it against his drowsy head.

"why were you laying beside me, you pervert?"

"what the hell?!" he said, jumping up. "you were the one that told me to!"

he was instantly taller than her, but that didn't stop her from slamming the fabric against his shoulder. then, without another thought, he grabbed another other pillow, and slapped it across her face, as she gasped.

"ara-ara! were you ever taught you manners? you are not to hit women!" she said, dodging his attack, and thwacked him again.

"you don't count as a woman. you're a mosquito." he remarked mockingly.

shinobu stood as still as a pillar, feeling herself grow red with fury.

"what did you just call me?-"

giyuu whacked her head. "mosquito."

forecasting shinobu's brewing storm, he ran out of the room's door, she wasn't slow to follow.
