18 || "there's something i've been meaning to tell you."

shinobu studied tomioka-san from the rehabilitation centre's window. the room was currently empty, except for herself and the slightly-muted sound of aoi and inosuke fighting with words, and probably kitchen utensils. she was happy to see that tomioka-san was recovering from his injuries at a fast pace. he was practically fine, apart from some minor inconveniences.

for instance, shinobu was helping him rehabilitate with the green tea game. after rounds and rounds of shinobu beating him, he finally won fair and square. but apparently his hand failed him, and he accidentally splashed his own face instead of her's.

shinobu now continued to examine the figure on the stone wall. his chest was encased with white bandages, and bands wrapped around both of his hands. tomioka-san was running his 36th lap of the walls of the butterfly mansion.

all of a sudden, the water pillar's eyes fixed on her. shinobu yelped, and ducked down from his view, a blush rising onto her cheeks. she let out another yelp as she realised that aoi-san was standing right behind her. the lady rolled her eyes.

"you're helpless, kocho-sama." aoi sighed, shaking her head slowly.

"h-helpless? ara-ara, what ever do you mean, aoi-san?" shinobu laughed nervously, looking anywhere but into aoi's knowing pupils.

"you've been swooning over tomioka-kun since.. the incident. you're truly helpless." aoi continued.

ever since aoi had walked in on tomioka-san and her kissing, she and aoi had made a silent agreement to call it "the incident."

aoi's eyes narrowed at something outside the window, and she tapped her lip as she said, "i didn't say he could finish his training yet. where is that man?"

"what?! stop playing with me."

aoi rolled her eyes again, turning to the door. "you know, after the encounter with the demon, he called your name the whole night." she winked, before pulling the door shut.

shinobu felt her blush grow deeper.

tomioka-san.. had called her name the whole night?

a knock sounded at the door, pulling shinobu out of her fantasies.

"come in."

tomioka-san walked in, raising his eyebrow at shinobu leaning on the wall, and sat down next to her.

he is sitting next to me. he is literally sitting next to me.

"whatever is the matter with you?" tomioka-san asked, turning to face her, his face expressionless as per usual.

"i don't quite understand your question." shinobu said, smiling at him. her slender fingers fiddled with her haori.

silence.

"okay. well, anyway, there's something i've been.. meaning to tell you."

"go ahead."

"kocho, i.. to continue the conversation we had a few moons ago, i just think that you should know that.." he took a breath and looked to the skies.

"i think that you're as beautiful as newly-bloomed wisteria flowers in the brightest, most beautiful hue of purple. i- your eyes, your personality, just everything about you is perfect in your eyes- i mean my eyes. you're the only one that has made me feel glad and happy to be alive since.. since my sister died."

another second followed, wind whistled and the orange setting sun shone onto his perfect features. his atlantic eyes found her's again, and he gently smiled.

"kocho. will you be my girlfriend?"

shinobu heard her heart beat faster than ever. she felt warm in her chest, and her grin stretched from ear-to-ear as tears formed in her eyes.

tomioka's expression changed.

"i'm sorry. did I say something wrong?" he asked, worry in his voice.

"no, no.. it's just that no one has ever said that to me before, and.. i'm just so happy that you feel safe enough to tell me about this, to think i'm deserving enough to see your beautiful smile. i-i feel the same way towards you, and i will be your girlfriend."

by the time shinobu was done talking, waterfalls were pouring down her face.

and then giyuu wrapped his arms around her, embracing shinobu and their mutual feelings. they stayed hugging each other like that till the moon and her stars began their descent.
