a pillow slammed against shinobu's head. they were both panting. after running and wreaking havoc around giyuu's house, they were both worn out, and tired.
giyuu hadn't had fun in so long, that he even had forgotten what bliss it felt like. but the fun couldn't possibly happen forever. after all, shinobu hated him, and she probably barely considered them friends.
it was midday. the sun was hovering right over the house, causing it to be exceedingly balmy and warm.
under normal circumstances, it would've been nice weather. But the fact that they had just run what was equivalent to a-hundred laps of the earth, the weather did not help at all.
"may i offer you a cup of cold water?" giyuu offered, trying to drag stay for longer, knowing that she was to leave at any given second. at this point, he didn't deny that he didn't want his only company to leave.
"yes, thank you." she replied, looking out of the open door. the sky was really beautiful. a bright blue coat, blanketed across the greenery and trees, draped across the most beautiful places, making them even more lovely than they already were.
giyuu propped up a glass, pouring water into the crystalline from a dark water jug. he then proceeded to open his fridge door, plop in exactly eleven miniature ice cubes (eleven was in eyes his favourite number).
"lemon?" he asked.
shinobu turned to face him, her gaze switching between the glass, and him, to the glass, and back to him.
she's about to tease me again, isn't she? he thought, immediately recognising the change of expression in her lavender-like eyes.
"tomioka-san, i thought you asked if I wanted a cup of water. do you drink fancy water everyday?" she laughed. "sounds unlikely." she added, teasingly.
giyuu ignored her, and cut a slice of lemon, decorating it on the side of the glass cup. he slid it across the table, and shinobu caught it before it could slip off the table, and onto the wooden floor.
she took a sip.
giyuu thought carefully about his words, watching her drink a few more sips, before opening his mouth to speak.
"shinobu." he spoke, meeting her gaze, but she broke it. "i'd like to say that.. today was fun." giyuu waited for further response, as shinobu quickly gulped down the rest of the lemon-water.
"good to hear." she said quietly, once again, avoiding his gaze.
"well, I suppose i'd better head back to the butterfly mansion now." shinobu stated, springing up. "thank you for letting me stay, tomioka-san. it made you do something likeable for once."
he opened the door for her, and waved her goodbye. sighing as he watched her leave.
now, it was just him again, just him alone. he couldn't help but wonder; why had she been avoiding his gaze earlier? had he done something wrong?
as he meandered through his now covered-in-feathers house, he stumbled across a particular butterfly pin. It was perched right above his mattress.

shinobu kicked a pile of petals down. she was back in wisteria lane, and boy was she furious at giyuu. why did you have to become so.. likeable? why couldn't you just.. stay easy to be disliked? loving others makes me vulnerable. they could disappear at any given moment.. just like kanae.
she knew that giyuu probably did not care for her at all, though all the thoughts she had led back to his stupid, appealing face, to his eyes that actually seemed to smile at her for the first time, that weren't hollow as they were usually. they almost seemed as if they lit up.
