LUCIANA
I was behind the curtain waiting for my turn to enter the stage. I can see the whole ensemble from where I'm standing. The Jewel fairies which include Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Sapphire, and the Lilac Fairy were dancing at the center of the stage, twirling and jumping to the rhythm of the music. My heart beat faster as the dancers bowed and I slowly walked toward my partner's outstretched hand. Then everything was a blur, I let my heart guide her feet as we perform a grand pas de deux. It didn't take long for my character as Aurora to marry the prince with the Lilac Fairy blessing the union, to me and my partner to bow as the whole ensemble followed, and then the curtain rolled down.
"Great job everyone!" My partner, Dmitriy, called out while clapping his hands together, the applause from the crowd was so loud it made my heart summersault. I have always loved performing, I felt like through my art I'm able to share a part of my soul to the audience and their applauses are my reward. It's as if the people who watched me also gave a portion of their soul as they take time to be immersed in every move and appreciate my art.
The dancers started to flock to their group of friends as we all head towards backstage when I suddenly felt an arm around her. I didn't have to look up to know who it was. It's Dmitriy, my partner.
"You were wonderful tonight, Luci, '' he said while his arms are around my shoulders. I smiled and circled my arms around his waist.
"You weren't bad yourself Dim!" I said praising him as I leaned closer and laid my head on his shoulder.
He's like a brother to me. Dmitriy is the son of a family friend, although older by a few years we got along quite easily. He was also the one who pushed me to try out ballet. He was there to guide me and critique my technics. Malaki ang pasasalamat ko kay Dmitriy because he's one of the reasons I am where I am at right now in my ballet career.
A long time has passed since the day that I was adopted from the orphanage, my life has changed a lot, and ever since then, I never looked back. I embraced my new beginning and lived the life I felt I deserved.
After I got adopted my adoptive mother, mama Maria, suggested that both I and Victoria should find hobbies that we would enjoy so I took up a lot of ballet classes while Victoria enrolled in piano classes. It was so easy for Victoria to fall into the groove and it didn't take long until she started to win piano competitions and was able to play for large crowds, especially since our adoptive dad was the governor at that time so we were always invited to charities and parties.
I on the other hand didn't experience that same easiness as Victoria, well because I chose ballet. It was not easy then when I first started and certainly, it isn't easy now. Contrary to people's opinion, ballet isn't only about being talented or having charisma on stage. Most of the result comes through hard work. Literal na pagbabanat ng buto ang pagdadaanan. Daan-daang beses na pagkapaltos, Libo-libong oras ng pag eensayo and the constant reminder that pretty hurts. It means that for ballet dancers to look presentable on the stage we have to go through a lot of dieting, they need to watch their weight because our ankles will suffer if they gained more than our ankles can carry, but aside from that magpakatotoo na ang Lahat, no one wants to watch a fat woman dance in pointe shoes, as insulting as it sounds, ganon talaga ang kalakaran sa ballet.
But despite all those I never looked at it as something negative, I grew on what options I had because I was determined and I knew even at my young age that it was my passion. I changed my eating habit when I became a professional ballerina and preferred to be a vegetarian. Day in and day out I would practice in the studio no matter how early the call time was and how late training would end. My social life suffered a lot, the only people in my life are my parents, Victoria and Dmitriy. They were my rock and I am thankful that through everything they were there.
