Chapter 22

Jacob's POV:

"What the fuck is your problem?!" Megan whispered at me, glancing out of the corner of her eye at Brendan and Musa standing a few yards away. "I couldn't risk it, Megan. You know that. I can't risk your lives. Alex can take care of himself." I replied, trying to keep my cool.

"Are you saying that I can't take care of myself?" Megan said, getting up in my face. "No, I know you can take care of yourself. If it was just me, I would've gone back into the forest in an instant. I couldn't risk you or Musa or Brendan's lives. Come on Megan, you know this." I repeated.

"No. Alex would've gone back for any one of us, and I would if I were you too." Megan spat back. "Then you should think a bit before you act." I said, and walked away. It was enough to deal with her, but Brendan seemed too quiet, and it seemed like there was something wrong. I walked up to him and sat next to him on a rock.

"Hey Brendan." He didn't even look at me. "What's wrong?" He still didn't look up. "Come on Brendan, seriously, what's wrong." What he said next was so quiet I almost couldn't hear it. "You should've gone back." That was all he said as he stood up and walked over to the car. If the whole flipping world against Alex could protect himself, and if Megan and Brendan and I somehow got separated,  it would be terrible. I couldn't bear to have the same thing happen with them as what had happened with Amanda. For all I knew, both of them could be dead, already inside a Rotter's stomach. Ugh, stop thinking about that.

I walked up to the car and got in the driver's seat and just sat there. Brendan ended up just going to the car and getting a snack from a backpack and then going back to sit on his rock. Speaking of which, we would be running low on that soon. Food. Hadn't been much of a problem so far, but we were starting to run out of supplies from Captain Grant's stock. I leaned back with my eyes closed for a few minutes.

I heard someone open the passenger door and get in and close the door again. "Listen, I'm sorry, okay? I'm just really stressed out. I just...wished Alex and Amanda were here. They'd know what to do." I knew it was Megan. I opened my eyes and looked at her. "I'm sorry too Megan, but we both know I made the right choice." She nodded slowly and stared at me.

She leaned in towards me, staring into my eyes. I closed my eyes as our lips brushed. A tingling sensation went up and down my spine, and I smiled. And of course the whole world hates me, so then of course Brendan walks up and rapped on the window of Megan's window. She looked over, and the mood was lost. "Of course." I grumbled to myself. She rolled down the window to see what Brendan wanted. "They're here." He said, and got in, Musa close behind him.

"Are you shitting me?" I said, and looked in the rear view mirror. Sure enough, there they were. Well, here we go again. When Musa got in, he handed me a pistol that looked brand new. "Where the hell did you get this?" I asked him. "Don't ask." He said. "Drive." And so I did.

A/N

Yes, that was a short chapter. I'm sorry also that this chapter was...a week late. Been sort of busy with studying for a bunch of tests, and also trying to get ready for April vacation and stuff. And mostly just being lazy...But yeah. No more chapters for a while, because I'm going back ton edit my past chapters, maybe add some stuff and change some things, so that's going to be cool. If you want, you can go back and reread the old chapters, so yeah. Anyway, I will let you know when I am done editing, and get back to writing. Please vote and comment, and let me know if you liked the chapter. Thanks for reading!
