MHA: Watching w/ Mom

Me and my mom were watching the Season 2 opening after having watched it once already, so we were on the second episode of Season 2.

-Iida stretching on screen-

Mom: Eww, what are those things on his legs??!

Me: ... Mom, that's his Quirk.

Me sharing MHA memes w/ mom b/c she can finally get them (or so I think)

Mom: I don't understand.

Me: What don't you understand?

Mom: Why they're doing X.

Me: ... I guess that's an anime thing then. (tries to explain)

Literally, whenever she's confused on why something's happening, I just assume it must be some otaku-related thing--

Mom: I don't want to watch it because it's sad!!

Me: Calling No. 6 sad, I get, but MHA?!! It's a shounen anime! How is it sad?!!

Mom: Because the main character didn't have a quirk, and All Might's dying! [She really likes All Might for some reason.]

Me: (Insert heavily confused expression) Why is that what you focus on? Deku received a quirk and is working super hard towards his dream, and I've told you a million times that All Might hasn't died as far as I am.

Me coming back to the conversation on March 12, 2022: Okay, how's this?!! (gives her the context and shows her the two pages where Iruma bumps into Kirio and is like "He's dead?!!" and Kirio's like "I'm not dead.") I guess it's a normal anime thing! Like blood from the nose! It's funny, right?!!

Mom: No, it's sad.

Me: GUKKAH! (gong of despair)

Someone help me think of an anime she'd find enjoyable-- I feel like even with Mairimashita, Iruma-kun!, which always made/makes me laugh my butt off, she'd be like "but he had such a poor life before, and now he was kidnapped by a demon!" or with Ouran High School Host Club or Fruits Basket, she'd be like "But her mom died!" What about Shugo Chara...? No, she'd probably be like "But she doesn't feel like she can be herself!" Aggh!!

Mom (talking about All Might): He's not a teacher!!

Me: (head whips around) WUT.

My dad, who has been on the opposite side of the room whenever we're watching (in other words, he has not been able to watch b/c we're watching on my laptop): No, he is.

Me: How do YOU know that?!! We've been watching subbed, and I've barely taught you any Japanese!!!

I never got an answer as to how he knew All Might was a teacher-- But I chalk mom's lack of knowledge about All Might, one of her favorite characters, to her deteriorating memory (because she is even more forgetful than I am).

Me: Do you wanna watch the opening? (secretly hoping she says "yes")

Mom: Nah.

Me (during Season 2): You don't wanna watch Kacchan be hot?!!

Mom: No! I don't like him.

Me: (sobbing in despair because despite all my memes and ship photos [even Bakuroki!!!), I can't convince her to like Kacchan, and thus, I have no choice but to reveal Todoroki to her before I can get her to ship KatsuDeku)

[Apparently though, she really, REALLY liked Todoroki even before knowing anything about him, as in, even during Season 1, and she doesn't necessarily ship Todoriya.]
