Otaku and Autism/Social Lessons

Okay, anime and manga have so much to offer for autistic research, I swear.

But if we get to a point where yuri and yaoi relationships are just as common as straight ones, doesn't that mean we'll have to focus more on what makes a relationship a friendship versus a *relationship*?? I mean, granted, we do ship friends like crazy already, so it probably will be chaos, but don't you think we'd start to pay attention more to cues of love versus "oh, this is a boy; this is a girl; judging from the way they're acting together, they must like each other." (Or how about Tokyo Ghoul, where it just said "okay, they're around the same age, and they're opposite genders, so let's just randomly pair them up after over 200 chapters. - AnD GO STRAIGHT INTO SEX--" Yes, I am still salty about that. I will never get over it.) We'd have to focus more on the actions for our indication of romance than the gender. (Or maybe that's just me with my ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder].)

Which brings me back to my first comment here: I WANT SOME OTAKU ASD RESEARCH!!! The Japanese definition of otaku is so similar to our definition of autism, and with their exaggerated expressions, I wonder if Japanese media has something to offer in teaching ASD kids about social skills!!! I mean, come on, Japanese media always has social lessons, right?? Some of that stuff has got to be getting through to kids like me, right?? SO LET'S FIND OUT WHAT IS GETTING THROUGH AND WHY.
