Did I get this idea from an rp? Yes. Yes I did and that's fine.

Mullys POV

After months and months of this damned war we finally won. God it's been awful, the killing of innocent people, the bombs and guns blasting out everyone's eardrums. But now it's finally over. We've lost so many amazing soldiers to whom I owe so much. Private Ryan, who threw himself over a grenade to save his quarter. Sergeant Rigbys, who took a bullet to the heart to protect a pregnant women and so many great soldiers. I owe my life to them.

If only I was able to tell the families how much of an impact their loved ones made.

We were all flown back to the U.S. Most of my troop had their families waiting for them but I chose not to tell Josh. I wanted it to be a surprise. Instead, I ordered an Uber. Stopping right before we got to the house, at a jewelry shop. I made Josh a promise and I'm thankful I get the chance to fulfill it.

Once I get to my house all the memories flood back to me. The day we bought the house, the countless hours arguing over what color the walls should be. The laughter shared, the tears shed and all the amazing time we spent together. It all came back to me.

I knock on the door, afraid he may already be asleep. Soon enough I hear someone walking to the door and a quiet gasp. The door swings open and my little guy clings to me tight. Tears rubbing down his face as he refuses to let go. I hold him close to my chest, listening to his frantic heartbeat and scattered breaths.

"I thought you weren't coming home... I thought I lost you..." he cries harder into my chest. "My love, you know I wouldn't let that happen. If I had to come back with a bullet in my chest and my left leg missing I would." I kiss him carefully, wrapping my arms around him. "God I missed holding you. It gets lonely out there." He smiles softly and kisses me again. "I missed you holding me too. Gaege tried to help with the loneliness but didn't really work. It's not the same without you." Ruffling his hair I take in his scent. What I missed the most. I've always loved the way he smelled.

It's not a clean smell but also not dirty. A smell that I could smell for the rest of my life. It's calming in a way. "Did you just smell me??" He blushes. "I missed your scent my love" burying his head in my neck he giggles quietly. "I forgot how sweet you are. I love you so much."

As he is about to go inside I reach into my pocket for the little box. I kneel down, waiting for him to turn around.

"Josh, before I left you two and a half months ago I made you a promise. I'm so thankful that I get the chance to keep my promise to you.  I've been so in love with you since day one, so with this ring I ask you, will you Joshua (made up last name) marry me?"

His eyes fill with tears as he hugs me. "YES!! Yes I'll marry you!!" Our lips smash together like magnets. Not wanting to let go. I carefully slide the ring on his small finger and looks into his beautiful blue eyes. "I'm so grateful I get to spend my life with you. You've been the one thing keeping me going and I owe it all to you." Carrying him inside to our bedroom.

Josh had piled up all our pillows on to my side of the bed to make some sort of human shape. It was pretty adorable. I laid him down, carefully crawling in and spooning him. The way he just seemed to fit right next to me was comforting. I love this man.
