There are some days in your life that you wish you could forget. The days that tear you apart, the days that shatter you to your core. But no matter how hard you try, they'll be stuck in your mind forever.
I can't explain the heartbreak I felt when I saw Adam kissing Maya, the girl who single-handedly ruined our friendship and now our entire relationship.
As soon as Sadie opened that door, my body went numb. The only things I felt were the tears that had started streaming down my face and the comforting embrace Morgan immediately enveloped me in. The only thing I heard was my heartbeat in my chest.
The least I could do was not cause a scene, so I covered my mouth with my hands to try and stay somewhat quiet.
"Found them." Sadie spat, her tone full of resentment.
I couldn't take it anymore. I turned around and started sprinting down the hallway, turning the corner and running down the stairs, into the closet bathroom I could find. As soon as I shut the door, I fell to the floor bawling. I was completely shattered.
"You are so ridiculously stupid!" I heard Sadie yell, and footsteps from upstairs followed, the thumps of the stairs becoming louder and louder as they became closer to me.
"El?" I heard, soft knocks coming from the door.
"GO AWAY!" I screamed. I didn't care who it was, I wanted to be alone.
"El, it's just me." Sadie spoke through the door, her soft voice calming me down enough for me to unlock the door, letting her in.
I collapsed into her arms, falling to the floor. She started to rub my back, making me cry harder.
"Shhh, it's okay. It'll be okay. Let it out, it's okay."
Sadie took my phone from my pocket, opening it quickly and calling my mom.
Within five minutes, Morgan had joined us in the bathroom. After another five, my mom was outside. She didn't say anything, she just drove us back to my house.
I fell asleep feeling more broken than I've ever been.
What did I do to deserve this?

Today's the day.
Showdown day.
I wake up at ten, but I don't want to do anything. Sadie and Morgan have to force me out of bed, to eat, and to get dressed.
The showdown is at noon, and we have to be there at eleven-fifteen to warm up. We're playing on the turf at the football stadium, and there's supposedly going to be a huge crowd.
Once we get there, everyone is quick to comfort me, just like they did with Tatum. I put on my best smile, because it's not about me anymore. It's about the team, and about the win. We have a job to do, and I'm here to make sure we do it.
As I take my warm up shots, I look into the stands and see Adam. He's wearing his letterman jacket, with a white sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. Jeez, does this kid ever wear anything else?
He's sitting with his parents, and they're with my parents and my brother. Seeing him with my family and just him in general, I suddenly feel really nauseous.
