If you asked me what the hell I was thinking when I almost kissed Ella, I honestly have no clue.
She just looked so pretty, and I knew that it was something I've always wanted.
In the past, I could never bring myself to admit it. But now, I guess I can. I really wish I would've just done it.
But hearing why she distanced herself from me was completely shocking, because we both had been manipulated by someone we both thought we trusted. I really only talked to Maya because of Ella, but she was always nice to me. She never gave me a reason to not trust her, at least until now.
I couldn't even bring myself to look at Ella after Morgan almost caught her and I earlier, and I still can't. But it's not because I don't want to. I've never been good at showing my feelings, so I just kind of avoid her the whole party.
I spend most of my time talking to her cousins - James, Alex, Trevor, and Matt. They all go to Eden Hall, and I'm almost positive they all play football. Matt is our age, so I'm decently friendly with him. The others are a junior and two seniors, so I haven't really talked to them before.
At around ten-ish, Maya shows up. I notice that she doesn't even say hi to Sadie, Morgan, and El, she just makes a beeline straight for me. She's always weirdly nice to me, but I've never been too sure as to why.
She comes up to the five of us, never breaking eye contact with me, and starts rambling nonstop. I turn around and see Sadie, Morgan, and El making their way over, and I can't take my eyes off Ella. She really does look pretty.
"Hey Maya.." Ella says once she's approached Maya, annoyance very clear in her voice.
"Oh hey El, is there something you need?" she responds quickly, and I can see straight through her act. She looks really stupid and I try my best to hold back a laugh.
"Yeah, actually there is. Can we talk, in private?" Ella continues, trying to sound as nice as she possibly could. I can tell her patience is wearing thin.
Maya gives her a quick eye roll before reluctantly following her inside Ella's house.
Trevor, Alex, Matt, and James take this as their cue to go somewhere else, and I start to follow, because I was in the middle of a conversation with them before Maya interrupted us. However, Sadie grabs my arm and pulled me back.
"She told you right?" she asks, annoyance clear in her voice too.
"Yeah, that's why we took so long to come out, we just cleared the air, and then we hugged it out." I respond, not completely lying. I'm pretty close with Sadie and Morgan, so I'm not going to make something up. I do purposely leave out the almost kiss though, for obvious reasons.
Sadie nods before speaking again. "Go check on her, she'll probably want someone there for her, and you're probably her favorite person. We're more than happy to go with you if you want, but you're also the person who can cool her down the fastest. You know how she can be sometimes."
"Don't, stay out here and have fun. I'll handle it." I say, looking at Ella's concerned friends.
I then give Sadie a thankful smile before heading inside. I don't see Maya anywhere, just Ella standing by the window in her living room, looking out into the street.
"Hey, are you okay? I speak, breaking the silence. I knows she probably wants to be alone to cool down, but it's honestly worth a shot, especially after what Sadie said to me.
