A week or so went by, and now the band was setting up outside of the store. I've been placing flyers all around town and a few have been taken. Hopefully, this goes well and the store will be saved. I'm at the register typing away at the old yellow keys when I notice someone step up. I peek up and see Josh.
"Josh?" I ask.
"Hey." He says. "Uhm, we need some things."
"Oh." I look down. "What do you guys need?" I ask.
"Cables, and a couple of song recommendations." He smiles.
"I can do that." I smile back. I walk to the storage room and find a box of cables. "Will any of these work?" I ask.
"Yep. This one will do." He says. I nod and start walking back to the front when he stops me. "Hey. I just want you to know, that even though I said I wasn't ready, it's not because I don't like you. I really do. It's just, we are really close to finishing the new album, and I, uhm." He looks down. "I was scared of being distracted. And you distract me. In a good way, but we are just half a song away." He looks back up. "Would you be willing to wait? Just for a couple of weeks? And then I can take you on that date?" He asks.
"Josh I-" I start to say yes, but I stop. Sam. I want to go and see Josh, but Sam is engraved into my heart too. "I will think about it." I smile at him. He nods and smiles but it doesn't match him. He walks towards the front but quickly turns around.
"Songs? Any songs you want us to play?" He asks. I smile and walk to a section of the store. I pull out a Jimi Hendrix album and hand it to him.
"Any of these, Eden would love them." I say. He smiles down at the album.
"Jake would feel proud." He chuckles.
"Why's that?" I ask.
"He treats Jimi like a god." He smiles. I can't help but feel hear rush to my cheeks and I smile back. He walks away and I go back to tidying up for the people that will hopefully come in. I can't help but think back to what Josh said. I did and still kind of do want to go on that date. I just want to know what he's like. But Sam. Sam is now a huge part in my life, and Eden's. Almost everyday he either stops at the store or the house. Josh has barely talked to me.
"Hello?" Danny said waving his hand near my face. I shake my head and look up to him. "You good?" He asks.
"Yes. I was just lost in thought for a moment." I giggle.
"Well. I'm done with setting up my stuff and was wondering if you needed help?" He asks.
"I'm almost done, I just need some posters hung." I answer. He nods and I show him where and what posters to hang and he gets to work. "You know, I've never heard you boys play."
"Really?" He asks.
"Yeah. I wonder if you guys are any good?" I giggle.
"Well. I guess you'll hear us today." He chuckles back. I'm putting things in the window to hopefully entice people to come in. "Hey, I actually have a couple of questions for you." He says walking to sit on the counter.
"What's up?" I ask.
"I just want to know a few things, so answer yes or no." He says. I nod and he sighs. "Alright. You and Josh. Yes or no?" I stare at him for a moment.
"I dunno." I say.
"Okay. You and Sam?" He asks. Heat immediately rushes to my cheeks. "Well. That answers it." He chuckles.
"I guess so." I blush and look down.
"What's going on with you two?" He asks.
"We just hangout all the time and he helps with Eden." I say.
"That's it?" He asks. I look back up at him. "Because the way you two look at each other says something different." I peek away.
"I guess he's.." I sigh. "I like Sam. And I don't want him to leave. And Josh is charming and sweet, but Sam is... more." I blush again. He nods for me to continue. "I feel bad, because I know Josh really likes me, but it broke my heart a little when he asked me to wait. I can't. And Sam hasn't done that. And even with all you guys working on the album, Sam has still managed to stop by. Josh hasn't. And with Sam he-" I start to mumble.
"It's okay. Just say what you want." Danny says.
"I guess, when I picture life down the road I see all of you guys there, but I see myself with Sam, more." Tears start to push their way through. "Im just scared of you guys leaving, and especially Sam. He does so much for us. And he's so gentle with Eden. And even she was disappointed when Josh stepped back. But Sam hasn't done that to her. And I think that's one of the biggest reasons why-" I sigh and look away, and back to Danny. "I think that's why I would choose Sam." I say. Danny's eyes widen and he nods.
"I think you and Sam have something really special." He hops down from the counter and squeezes my shoulder. "I'm really happy for you both. And Sam wasn't in the best place before you two, but now this is the happiest I've ever seen him. Thank you." He says. I look up to him and smile. He smiles back. "The band is about to start. See you out there." He chuckles and walks out. I watch him leave feeling a little better about the Josh and Sam situation. As much as I do want to see Josh, I already know where I belong.
