"Sam." I let out a cry.
"Will you?" He holds out a little paper ring. I smile down at him. "Sorry it's not much. It's from the ice cream shop I took Eden to the first time." His eyes crinkle as he grins. Tears flowing from both of our eyes, the smile we both share, feeling the warmth from the love between us.
"Yes." I laugh. "Yes! Of course!" I lean into him and hold him tight. He picks me up and holds me like he's scared I'll let go.
"Thank god." He mumbles into my hair. He sets me down, leaving little kisses all around my face.
"Mama?" We both turn our heads and see Eden wiping the sleep away, confused on what's going on.
"Hey sunshine." Sam smiles. He runs over to her and scoops her up, twirling her around as well.
"Why are you crying?" She asks.
"It's a very special day." He walks over to me and wraps both of us in his arms.
"Eden. Look." I hold my hand up and show her the paper ring.
"What's that?" She asks, still very confused on what's going on.
"Mama said yes." He smiles and kisses my cheek. She looks at us with wide eyes, a small grin tugging at her lips.
"You asked her?" She turns to Sam. He nods and she hugs his neck. "Finally!" She yells. She lets go and leans for me to hold her. I hug her close, feeling the irreplaceable joy around me.
"Are you excited?" I ask her. She leans back and nods eagerly. Though she looks happy, I can still tell she's not fully feeling good. "You wanna go back to bed." She nods again.
"Can i sleep in your room?" She asks. I look over at Sam who just smiles down at both of us.
"Of course love." I kiss her cheek and we head to bed.
Eden tucked in between us, Sam and I stare at each other over the sleeping baby.
"I love you." I whisper.
"I love you." He whispers back.
Throughout the night I wake up, remembering that he asked me the biggest question of my life. The man I love, holding my daughter in his arms, both snoring. I just watch them and feel so happy in this moment. Peace. Eden's dad never made me feel this way. He never cared to hold her, or to even be near her. But Sam is always asking and talking about Eden. She's the one thing that brought us together.
*Sams POV*
I can't sleep. Seeing her face over and over again, full of joy when I asked her. It keeps me awake for hours. Eventually, I do fall asleep. But I wake up with the sun poking through the curtains, and the birds singing. Blinking sleep away, I see Eden tucked close to her mom, snoring away. Her mom tho, a vision. Hair strewn across the pillow, like a halo. Her lashes gently kissing her freckled cheeks, lips slightly parted. Waking up with her everyday gets better and better, and more difficult to leave such a view.Slowly climbing out of bed, I cover the girls back up and creep out of the room. Walking out onto the back porch, I call Jake.
"Hello?" His voice sounds groggy.
"I did it." I smile into the phone.
"Did what? I swear to god Sam, if you got arrested again! Im gonna-" he starts yelling.
"I asked her." I groan. "Jesus. I asked her Jake." I hear hip sit up.
"What?" He asks. "Really?"
"Mhm." I smile like an idiot.
"What did she say?" He asks.
"She said yes." I hear him take a deep breath. "Jake?" There's silence. "Hey man, what's wrong?"
"Nothing." He chuckles. "You know Josh is gonna be pissed tho."
"I don't care. He should have been there for her. And besides, she choose me." I answer. Fuck what Josh had to say. If he cared about us he would realize how happy we were.
"He's not gonna see it that way. You know that." He says, voice in a hushed tone.
"Well. He's gonna have to get over it." I answer, standing up.
"I hope so. But seriously. Congratulations man. I'm glad you finally found someone. It's about damn time." He laughs.
"Thanks Jake." I hang up and walk back inside and see her making breakfast. Swaying her hips to her humming. The shirt I lent her hanging mid thigh, calling me closer. I lean against the door frame, watching her in her element.
"Baby baby, I've got a gift for you. Oh baby baby," she hums away. She's always a breathtaking sight. Her long dark hair, and her goddess like body. If she would let me, I would worship the ground she walked on. But her being the humble woman she is, watching her is enough.
It's times like these when I realize how much I'm in love with her. She's a woman. My woman. The one I'm going to marry and have a life with. Having our own family, and watch her bring life into the world around us, it almost cripples me. Just to think about life before her, or life with out her kills me. I nearly feel physical pain. She's my saving grace. A heavenly being sent from above. I've caught myself an angel.
"Well are you just gonna stand there, or are you going to help me?" She turns her head back at me and smirks.
"Alright. Shows over I guess." I laugh.
