Chapter 9

My heart was pounding in my chest as I waited in the car with my mom.

"Calm down, you'll have a good time." My mom reassured me.

"I won't." I shook my head. "They're like all friends and they all know each other and they all got ready together and I'm the loser that nobody knows." I mumbled, tapping my foot.

"Honey, you'll have a good time, trust me." My mom smiled, squeezing my hand.

"Shit they're here." I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest as a red jeep pulled up in front of ours.

"There's no way they all fit in there without double buckling." My mother laughed as they just kept pouring out of the Jeep.

"Okay I'm going now bye love you." I said to my mom as I got out of the car.

"Have fun!" My mom laughed, giving me a wave.

"You look beautiful." Wesley smiled, walking up to me.

"Hi." I said softly, my hands tightly holding my little purse.

"And you look nervous as hell." Wesley frowned.

I offered a soft smile.

"Come on, we'll have fun, I promise." Wesley said softly, wrapping his arm around my shoulders.

"There's so many of you guys." I laughed. "And I don't know anyone."

"You're fine." Wesley said quietly, kissing my cheek.

Wesley and I stood next to each other while everyone else seemed to be talking.

Marley, Mark, Nicole, and Logan were all laughing together, probably talking about some inside joke.

I looked up at Wesley, who was watching them with an amused look on his face. I didn't feel like I belonged here, and I wondered what the hell I was doing...

It was dumb to think I'd ever be a part of the Ryder family and their friends...

"Marley's gonna freak out when she finds out that Nicole and Mark are gonna start dating." Wesley said softly with a laugh.

"Are they?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Oh I'm sure of it." Wesley nodded, looking down at me. "At least I think he's gonna try, I'm not so sure he's capable of dating."

I awkwardly smiled, not really knowing what to say.

"But hey, if they start dating we can go out with them." Wesley smiled, nudging my hip with his.

"Maybe." I laughed, looking up at him.

"Are you sure you're alright?" He asked softly.

I nodded. "I'm okay, honestly." I smiled.

"If you're not, just let me know and we can leave." Wesley said quietly.

"Okay well we at least need to get to the dance." I laughed. "I can make it through pictures."

"Good." Wesley nodded.

"Wes! Come on let's get a group picture." Mark called over to us.

Wesley looked down at me and I nodded, a smile spreading across my face.

"They're actually acknowledging us! Wow!" I teased.

Wesley rolled his eyes with a laugh, wrapping his arm around my waist as we walked over to join everyone.

The pictures went better than I thought. It wasn't obvious that I was extremely uncomfortable around everyone.

"Okay now just the girls." Marley said happily, her hand wrapping around Nicole's arm.
