Chapter 5
"Need a ride?" Someone asked, suddenly appearing in front of me.
I looked up from my book in shock to see Wesley standing there. He was wearing basketball shorts and a t-shirt, looking like he'd just been working out.
"Uh sure." I laughed, standing up. "Thanks."
"So I'm guessing you got ditched at school?" He guessed.
"Something like that." I nodded. "My dad doesn't get off of work until six on Wednesdays so I usually stay at school until then." I sighed, putting my book into my backpack.
"Well lucky for you, I stayed after all of my brothers to work out, so I've got the Jeep to myself." Wesley smiled, holding up his keys. "We could go get ice cream?" He suggested.
"Stroh's?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Well obviously." He smiled as we walked towards the doors towards the student parking lot.
"Then I'd love to get ice cream with you." I said happily.
We each got the same thing that we'd gotten the first time we went to Stroh's and even sat in the same booth.
"So did your headache go away once you got home?" Wesley asked curiously, taking a bite of his ice cream.
"Uh... Yea." I nodded, crossing my legs under the table.
"That's good." Wesley smiled. "So we'll just have to finish the movie another time then." He laughed.
I just nodded, looking down at my ice cream with a sigh.
"You alright?" Wesley asked softly.
I nodded. "Yea, yea I'm okay." I sighed, looking up at him. "Alright so basically on Saturday, it wasn't really a headache, it's just kinda what I said because it made a lot more sense at the time, but I figured if we're gonna be hanging out I guess I should just tell you." I said, leaning forwards on my elbows.
Wesley watched me carefully.
"I've got social anxiety, which means that I don't do too well in social situations and sometimes, for no apparent reason, I'll just kinda start freaking out and there's nothing really I can do about it." I sighed.
Wesley just nodded. "My oldest brother has that." Wesley smiled. "But hey, if that ever happens again, you can just tell me, you don't need to make up a headache. I'll understand."
I instantly felt myself relax as a smile crossed my face.
"And that, Wesley Ryder, is why you're the one that I like." I smiled, leaning back against the booth.
Wesley smiled, his foot nudging mine.
"So how well do you handle school dances?" Wesley asked curiously.
I raised my eyebrows.
"Uh it depends, I guess. Why?" I laughed, taking a bite of my ice cream.
"Oh just wondering." Wesley shrugged, a smile crossing his face.
"Why?" I repeated, unable to stop the smile on my face as well.
"Well I was just wondering if it was fair game for me to ask you to homecoming." Wesley smiled.
I raised my eyebrows. "Are you asking me to homecoming?" I asked with a laugh.
"You'll just have to wait and see." Wesley winked, taking a bite of his ice cream.
I laughed, shaking my head. "You're weird."
"Weird is good." Wesley shrugged. "You wouldn't want me to be ordinary."
